How do I recharge the a/c system on a 1991 Audi 100?
1991 Audi 100
5 cylinder. Does anybody know how or where to recharge the a/c on this type of vehicle? I've looked in the engine compartment for a low side to do it, but have not had any luck. I don't even see a high side either! I do not own a service manual or an owners manual for this car. Can somebody help me on this? |

many of the models in the '90s ONLY had high side charging.
if you are totally out, and are converting to (or already have) 134a in the system, you may consider looking for a mid-80s to 90s GM accumulator-rec/dryer, as many of these will swap in AND have a charging port on the unit. as far as your high side charge area, should be on the condensor right by the front of the grill. hope this helps, chris nrt racing |

no problem.
if you have 134a in it, and just wish, usually high side "re"charging from an independent shop will only cost $50-80 parts and labor, and they will usually evac the system and pressure test to insure everything is ok. chris nrt racing |

Re: How do I recharge the a/c system on a 1991 Audi 100?
Vituales,
Your '91 should be the same as my '90. Under the radiator, driver's side, you will find the AC compressor. Right side of it, a block with hoses on it. Front of the block is the charging port, low side. Take the cap off, it it is threaded, never chasnged to 134. If quick disconnect, has had couplers changed, you can't tell if it has had any other service, like pump down, seals changed, etc. Advance Auto Parts, if you have them, sells a kit, hose with guage, adapters, and 3 15 or 16 ounce cans of R134, with oil, for about 35 bucks, US. Half hour job to do it yourself, barring any leaks. Were it I, I would check the tightness of every fitting I could get a wrench on. This post might be too late, but what the heck? Cheers, George |
