1999 Door Hinges

I need to know if anyone has had a problem with their door hinges sagging. how can i get rid of this and how much is it to replace them?

It's a real common problem. We doa ton of 'em.

I think that the parts are just about $30 and you'll probably be charged an hour of labor. So depending onyour local labor rate, close to $100 should do it.

Yip, door pins and bushings.

After you swap in new ones, make sure you oil and lube them constantly from now on.

I have a 2000 GMC Sonoma conversion van. The door pins have rusted shut on the side doors. The dealer is giving me the run around. Do you know of any tech bulletins about this issue?

He is quoting me aroung $1900 to fix the problem.

Still have the conversion van problem. My side doors have the usual exterior hinge setup that is standard on all GMC Sonoma vans. A few months ago the second of the two side doors started becoming difficult to open and finally I could not open it at all. Now the front one of the two side doors is the same--neither door will open at all.

I first took it to my local street mechanic (Firestone) and he looked at it and immediately said the hinge pins are rusted -- he sees it all the time with GM and GMC vans. He said he did not have the proper tools to remove the hinge pins and advised me to go back to the dealer which I did.

I took it to a large (usually reputable) GMC dealer--Grossinger in Lincolnwood Illinois--and their service department immediately started with the consumer run around--first said it was damage--no damage is apparent. Then they switched to it isn't covered by warranty because it isn't mechanical--what part of a hinge pin is not mechanical?/ Then they saiid they would fix it for $1900 cause they wanted to cut the hinges off and reweld them. I said stop--this is bs--a four year old vehicle with 50K in miles and you have to cut off the hinges and its not a warranty covered item.

We then started up the food chain--first to customer service at the dealer then on to the GMC regional service rep. Having been thru this bs once before with a failed transmission on a Dodge minivan, I have learned that you need to establish a pattern--tech bulletins and prior cases are particulary helpful.

Any help would be really appreciated. Right now my seven passenger conversion van is a joke. To get more than two people in it, you have to climb in thru the passenger side and then over the console.

What a mess!! And to think that I supposedly paid extra for GMC quality .

Never again.

97 Sonoma, 4.3L -- My driver door hasn't closed properly for a long time now. I'm hoping someone has a suggestion, besides take it to someone to fix, to repair it. It seems to get worse when the weather turns cooler. -- jack -- cablecritter720@hotmail.com

I've had it happen to me on my 2001 Blazer. To bad extended warrenty wont cover it

I've had my drivers side sagging for a while because the numbskull who had the truck before me got the wrong pins and bushings and drilled the hinge holes out...(Arrrrrgrg) I temporarily tac welded the bushing to the hings so it wouldn't move but that's only a temporary fix... The bottom hole on the top hinge attached to the door egged (developed an egg shaped hole) Well since my truck is in the body shop, they welded the holes shut, then redrilled the holes (I supplied the proper bushings and pins) and it only cost me 50 bux in labor.

I agreee though, a 50k car shouldn't cost 2k to fix a hinge... I would take it to a reputable local body shop and see what they have to say.
