Goodbye UK - hello Oz (*lots of pics*)

Well, after 2 and a half years, Helen and I are about to leave the UK and move back to Australia. So I thought I'd get a little nostalgic (and not a little self-indulgent) and post a 'summary thread'. Some pictures of completed projects, and the kits and bits we bought while in the UK. Most of these have now been shipped back to Aus - so here's hoping they arrive safely!

I found the UK to be a great source of rare older kits - especially UK eBay and model shows such as the IPMS at Telford. And since Helen is a modeller too she actually encourages me! The UK also has better access to aftermarket stuff - particularly Rennaissance who I can't recommend enough.

I now have some modelling supplies that are going free. Things such as hobby knives, spray cans etc that Aussie customs won't be happy with me bringing in. Don't think it is worth the hassle taking back paint pots either (Humbrol enamel and Tamiya acrylic). I can't really be bothered to post these, but if someone can get to Leeds and would like to take them off my hands PM me to organise something.

Well enough prattling on - here are some pics of the completed projects, in no particular order:

Heller/Airfix 1/43rd Imprezas

Tamiya 350Z with SAS Nismo tranksit (highly recommend this transkit)

Hasegawa Lancia Super Delta with Racing 43 decals

Tamiya Celica GT4

Tamiya Lancer EVO VI

Hasegawa Impreza WRX Sportswagon

Tamiya Honda CRX Mugen Sports

Hasegawa Impreza WRX

Tamiya Supra

Hasegawa Impreza WRX Gp N with Studio 27 decals

Tamiya Impreza WRX Gp N with Studio 27 decals

Tamiya Subaru XT Coupe

Two more group shots

Nice models. Leaving the UK for Australia..!! What do you not like it here..!!

Nah only joking, hope your models get back home safely, I've considered moving over there a few times but I doubt I ever will... It's not like moving house moving to another country. Wouldn't have the first idea what I need to do for a start..

Well, thanks for that little indulgence. You never know - I could use this for insurance if the boat sinks.

'Nice models. Leaving the UK for Australia..!! What do you not like it here..!!'

I love the UK. Only going back for work - and to see family and friends that we haven't seen for a long time. Unfortunately Aus is a bit too far to pop back for a weekend. And trust me, my decision has absolutely nothing to do with the Ashes! My consolation is that the only match I got to see was the one-dayer at Durham where the Aussies had a (rare) victory!

Cheers,
Grant.

Where are you moving to in Australia..? It'd be nice to get another Queenslander on here?

Hey robrex. I am moving to Melbourne. Went for a job at Uni Queensland but they didn't want a cockroach like me up there (I'm from Newcastle originally).

Suppose I should take this opportunity to ask people for advice on good hobby shops in Melbourne. I remember a post a while ago about a really good store in the centre of the city - anyone got details?

Looks like Possum Bourne's Impreza on the right. I got the Studio 27 decals for this version, and "only" need to find the kit now (Tamiya kit# 24231). But the kit has street-rims, not gravel-rims and tyres like on your model. I'd like to know where you got these from??? Or am I looking for the wrong model? And did you make the rollcage yourself?

Thanks!

Tim

Tim, you are indeed looking at the correct model. There is a thread for the model here, but unfortunately most of the photos have been removed to fit my quota. Basically, I mated the chassis and rollcage from the Rally GB WRC Impreza with the body of the WRX STi road car. You will need to also put the RHD dash from the road car in. The road body is a pretty good fit, though you may need to slightly modify the rollcage and suspension to get it to sit right. The wheels came from a gravel spec Hasegawa Lancia Delta kit, as they were the nearest match I could find.

Grant.

I little harsh - but since my ancestors first ever trip was kindly paid for by His Majesty for that very reason, I guess it's a fair call
