98 LX 1.5L 5sp Pulling The Engine
My recently acquired 98 Mazda Protege LX, 1.5L L4, 5sp manual transmission spit out a crankshaft thrust bearing. It is apparent the previous owner tried to fix things by dumping aluminum powder solutions into the oil.
Anyway, Haynes says to pull the engine first you have to empty the engine bay which I have done. Then disconnect the axles and last snatch the engine, transmission and differential out as one piece. I would prefer to pull the front pulleys off the engine and then move it to the passenger side frame and then lift just the motor out leaving the bell housing, transmission and differential. As this is a manual transmission is this feasible? Many thanks for your help, (and yes, I did check FAQ's and searched but did not see anything specific), Bill |
