12 subs?

I did a search and saw that 8s and 10s seem to be the most common. But one guy said he had 12s. Do u know the mounting depth on those. A buddy of mine has second gen MR2 and though bout buying 2 RE SE 12s. The mounting depth on them is close to 6.5-7 inches.

Re: 12 subs?

the other day i was in tweeter and talking to the installer and he said he once did a custom box in an mr2, he said he mounted a 12 right in the center console and fiberglassed it up and make it look like it belonged there, dont know if that helps but its an idea

Re: 12 subs?

possible but thats only 1 he was looking for 2. I told him that i didn't think they would be mountable in the mr2 as these are BIG subs that pack a big punch.

you could definatly do a 12 behind a seat but you would lose you t top placement. i definatly would not recomend it. IM working on designing a custom fibergalss enclosure that holds 2 JL audio 6" micro subs to go in place of the console between the seats, look for the post in a while. But i would definalty not recomend a 12. do one good 8 with some power and call it a day

Foxman - I wouldn't post my e-mail address in a forum if I were you. You are just asking for spam.

Re: 12 subs?

One thing you'll have to do is look for a sub that can run very well in a small sealed enclosure. Something like .5 to .8cu/ft is all about what you can get. Remember, you can't just pick out subs, though them in a box and expect them to sound great. You have to take into account of the subs themselves along with the vehicle. Personally, I'd go with 2 10's in a single vented enclosure but that's just me.

Oh, RE's won't get it in this application. They work best in HUGE boxes. I'd suggest Directed Audio's new SX line. They work in almost any config. Here's 2 links

Re: 12 subs?

Yah i done told my buddy that the RE's are out of the ? because there huge box size. He is currently checking into the new poineer subs taht are supposed to be really thin. *made for cars/trucks with little room for enclosures.*

I just stuck with the factory 5" sub in the passenger box and later found a driver side one for sale so I essentially now have the premium factory system. I changed the fronts to 13cm alpines and powered them off a seperate amp. My mate is a true audiophile and even he had to admit it was sounding very nice.

I must remember to update my signature as I now have an MR2 MK2 rev 1

Back before my entire system and passenger NEX seat was stolen I had

2 12" subs, one behind each seat in truck boxes. They fit perfectly, nice and snug.

The amp is mounted in the frunk, and it's always a pleasure lifting your hood at car shows and people stare at your amp/battery and say "Dayyyamm didn't know these were electric!"
