2005 Colorado lifter noise/tap

Hey guys four weeks ago I purchased a new Colorado Z71 with the I-5 engine. When I took delivery I noticed a strange noise that sounded as though a noisey lifter. My salesman allowed that it would "work itself out" well 1000 miles later its still present so I dropped it off this morning at my local Chevrolet dealer. I just got a phone call stating they were not "sure" they were calling GM today for direction. I was just curious if anyone else has had this problem. I have read the prevous posts concerning the head and check engine lights. Other then that I love the truck as well as the room the crew cab provides. Your comments are greatly appreciated!

I got my truck back the same day I dropped it off for the noisey lifter issue. The dealer had phoned to GM and I am only the second reported case with this issue. They currently are unable to determine which cylinder it is coming from so I was asked to drive it until the 28th of this month in hopes it gets worse? But not to worry about driving it LOL I responded with well GM will just have to eat the cost of a new engine if any damage occurs. I was also told that their tech's are not extremely comfortable tearing down one of these engines as of yet. (Which scares me)

Don't count on a new engine. General misconception here. If the engine is replaced it may have a rebuilt engine as the replacement. Hard to say what happened to the rebuild, how many miles are on various parts in it. All you know is that it will probably last beyond the warranty period. I'd try very hard to not have an engine replaced these days. I'd think a decent mechanic with some experience on these newer engines should quickly figure out the origin of the noise.
