Custom Console

Hello I'm new here and would like to talk about what I'm planing on attempting.

My cousin and I plan to start working on his 1992 chevy s10, we would like to first replace the bench seat with bucketseats and thats simple enough, but we would like to put a custom built console between the seats. This console would start under the dash and go around the stick shift, contain a cdplayer/radio, amplifier, drink holders, and a storage compartment, and go up the back wall. The part going up the back wall would have 2 or 3 speakers in it.

and the problem is ...

What do we make it out of?
I'm not very sure what we should do and I'm not an automotive specialist, I'm a computer programer... so my ideas about stuff like this are lacking...

I did see someone fabricating somthing with what seemed to be pop-rivited tin over a wooden framebut i did really see what he did after doing that or even know that much about what he was doing.
We would really like to finish it in somthing like metalic blue.

Re: Custom Console

I would use a combination of MDF (or plywood if your cheep) and fiberglass. You could make the shapes for the fiberglass with foam, wire mesh, fleece, ect. set it up, sand it all down and paint it. If its going to have speakers mounted in it then I would not suggest metal as it will resonate.

Thanks for the ideas,
this helps a bit, one slight change of plans due to an unexpected offer today we may sell this s10 and get a newer model s10, but our plans for going custom probably won't change much.
And our general theme if thats what you could call it was metalic blue and blue neon, and chrome, but that might change to a differnt color scheme now.

Re: Custom Console

They sell consoles at walmart and canadian tire that will fit between the seats in a fashionable manner and is very clean look they have several types to choose from as well ranging from 15-45 dollars depending on how fancy you wanna get. I looked at these consoles before they are very customizable themselves so it can be easily made to look like it belongs.
