NSW importing information

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/vsi04.pdf

Lang said apparently if the car is more than 15 you don't have to worry about compliancing...just normal australian vehicle standards.

Incoming is correct on this. Importing Hondas is near impossible based on a number of factors. The most damming of which is that the JDM ones do not (according to the Fed Govt) provide sufficient difference to those in Australia. It's all in the new legislation - in fact, only the Beat and the '80s City Turbos made it to Australia (CTs under a loophole in Qld legislation - now removed).

I did some checking as I wanted to get a SiR CRX a while back - no can do as engine differences alone will not be considered as sufficient reason to issue the compliance plates to brokers. If you can find a CT in Japan (good luck ), then it may be possible.

Private imports are as bad - the car must have been owned for somewhere between 3-5 years overseas before it can be imported.

I truly wish it could be different - and those people who know the history of my car know why. I would love to have the compliance plate on the SiR - but I doubt it will ever happen

Isn't It you have to live in whereever you want to import your car from around 3 months?

Nope - that changed about 5 years ago. It's a number of years now, but I can't remember how many

to privately import a car from japan you need to have a japanese bank account, have a japanese car license and 'own' the car for a certain amount of time before even bringing it over here.
thats from my research but i may be wrong
