Talking 1996 Thunderbird LX - alternator swap?

Hey,

New to this forum but I use one just like it for my 2002 Maxima (Maxima.org)

My wife has the 96 T-bird w/ the 4.6L and the alternator crapped out... Anybody swap one recently? I don't think there's a lot to it but I wanted to get some pointers or a link to a how to... Any help would be great!

Re: 1996 Thunderbird LX - alternator swap?

i have a 94 i dont know if they are different but its really simple
1. take a 1/2" drive ratchet do breaker bar and take the fan belt off by puttin it in the auto tension thing on the belt its to the left of the alternator if you are standing at the front of the car.
2. there are 3 bolts holding it on they are either 8mm or 10mm one on the top and to on the bottom you will need a few extensions to do this.
3. on the back there are 2 wire connection clips and a larger gauge wire thats bolted on take them off and u should be done

oh make shure you dicaonnect your battery and do it when the car is stone cold because if its not u will burn the crap out of you hands i think thats all hope that helps
