1998 power window problems

The driver's side windows (front and rear) have not been working for a while - press button, no sound or motion. Now the passenger side windows are working intermittently. I may be imagining this, but they don't seem to work when the car is cold from sitting overnight, or when it is very hot out. Can't say that is a correct observation. The passenger windows may actually work unpredictably. However, the front and rear either both work or both don't work.

Have check fuses and they seem okay. Any idea of what to do next?

Thanks,
Brian

Re: 1998 power window problems

Replace the switch panel. I bet this is only a problem from the driver's position, correct? If so, the most likely CAUSE is that the driver's window has been left doen in the rain, and water got into the switches and is ruining them. The switch panel is not all that much money, and is easy to replace.

Thanks so much for the answer, and I am certainly going to examine the switches. I am beginning to suspect there may be several layers of problems involved here.

HOWEVER, here are the symptoms:
1. Left (driver's side) windows won't work at all. This could be a switch problem, and started months before any problem with the other windows.

2. Right side windows either both work, or both don't work - erratically.

3. When right side windows won't work, they won't work with either the driver's or passenger's side switches. So I think there must be something wrong electrically "upstream" which affects both right and left side switches for the passenger side windows.

Anyone have a suggestion of where to check this latter possibility out?????

Thanks,
Brian

All the power for ALL the windows comes from the driver's door. If contacts get wet, they corrode, and stuf no workie.

thanks so much

That's exactly what I needed to know - so I will concentrate on the driver's door switches.

Thanks so much!
