Getting a Silvia IN AMERICA
As far as i know, there arent strict import laws against transporting an engine correct? There arent strict laws regarding shipping tires, steering columns, frames, bodys, and interiors. Now if somebody wanted to, they could make a semi-large(maybe large) investment and take the car apart and ship it in about 5 or 6 pieces or so.
IT seems like a longshot, but it could be done and it would get around shipment of car regulations, If I am not mistaken. THen you would be able to build it yourself and claim it as a kit car or possibly register it as a 240 with vins that you buy from a chop shop. Just a though, Stu |

Re: Getting a Silvia IN AMERICA
You can ship the car complete. It is no problem at all. You just can't register it. The VIN numbers aint gonna work for registration in the US.

Silvia's & Skyline's Ready for Order (Japan)
March 18, 2004
Newly Licensed Company for Vehicular International Trade (The Silvia and Skyline Direct from Japan) Attention: Nissan Enthusiast's, Hopefully some of you read my research I posted for the people that are not completely knowledgeable of the official DOT regulations and that IT IS Law-abiding to legally register Skyline's etc, This enable the consumer to be able to drive public streets. (If this to cause any hesitations and doubt, please feel free to locate this information on the web. We are officially licenses and qualified to provide the most efficient and the best possible competitive prices even available. The Company is also financially able to not have to over charge. Currently the prices are not yet available. The will be somewhat flexible anywhere from 12,000-80,000 give or take. Also, there will be absolutely no guarantee of anything the car entail except color, price, mileage and condition. We also WILL NOT be able to sell any brand new cars from Japan, because of the 35% tax rate on the entire price of the vehicle. An example is the 2004 GT-R Skyline Concept Vehicle. The cars are currently available for immediate purchase and order is the Silvia's, (S35-14's from 1993-1995/S-15's from 1996-2000). The statute also prohibits the importation of new or used motor vehicles into the United States unless they were manufactured to conform with, or are brought into conformity with, those standards and are so certified. NHTSA issued an interpretation stating that the importation prohibition applies to the bringing into the United States of foreign-domiciled commercial vehicles which was during the year of ’75. In layman’s terms, no car can legally be driven on public roads in the US, unless DOT and EVA approval is met. There are three requirements in order to obtain this DOT and EVA approval. 1) The electrical components of the ECU, wiring harness and ODB2 are in compliance with US law. 2) State EVA smog certification varies from state to state. 3) For this make and model all crash tests have been performed in compliance with FMVSS safety standards On the bright side, there is no legal restriction in driving a right-hand drive vehicle on US public roads. This is sometimes a lengthy process and you will need to ensure you have all paperwork completed and accurate before submitting. The good news is that once the three requirements are met, DOT approval is normally forthcoming Processing time ranges from four to eight weeks. WARNING! Sometimes a compliance attorney is consulted with every import prior to submitting the application to ensure the paperwork is not thrown out. Once you are approved for DOT/EVA you will be issued with a vehicle registration document similar to the one you get when you buy a new vehicle. I am licensed to provide a comprehensive service to import a fully street legal vehicle to fulfill whatever you new project needs may be. If you should need any assistance in planning for you’re new project vehicle please contact me via email or by mobile.
