Question Focus Zetec/SVT Engine Swap

Hi,
I would like to upgrade my current ZX3 zetec stick shift.
I have a freind who has a SVT motor with 3K on it and comes with the 6 speed transmission and ECU.

Question is, how easy is the swap, I have been told there are some differences in the motor, beyond the obvious. Do they drop right in?
I have a mechanic who says he can do the job, but did'nt ask any questions about differences, so want to make sure its not to complex before he gets into it.

Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

Also looking at a 2002 4.6L mustang. Do they fit, if so how major?

Thanks

your better off either selling your focus and getting the svt, or the mustang.

Is it that complicated, or just the $$$$$.
The clutch is going on mine now, and instead of forking out for a new one, just make the swap.

I knew the 4.6L would be a tough one, just thought I would ask.

I would not be paying any labour on the swap for the SVT, so it would only be the cost of the motor/tranny/ECU, which I can get for a grand.

Any more info would be appreciated, anybody done this swap?

Thanks for the reply.

the svt it nice, but its mostly a twisties car. The engine isnt any faster than your zetec with some good bolt ons. Someone sells v8 kits for the focus, but you would just be better off getting the mustang. Warrenty and all that stuff you wouldnt have on the focus.

But if you want to do it, go to www.focaljet.com and look, i dont think the svt swap has been done by anyone that i can recall. And the v8 swap is getting pretty common on htere.

Hey thanks for the advice.
The SVT is only 40 more horses, I was just hoping it was a drop in as I said the clutch is on its way out and the motor I have in now has 60,000+ on it, with no warranty left.

I like mustangs, but was looking into the idea because, I wanted a sleeper, I would prefer to have a focus with the 4.6L than the mustang, unless it was the Cobra

Don't want to have a GT (all I could afford), because I would want to bore it out and slap on a supercharger, I certainley don't have the funds for that right now.

It would be interesting to do the SVT conversion, especially if it has not been documented before.

try it out, be one of the first...but make sure you do a write up its something i would like to see, but you might want to check out the contour/cougar 2.5 v6. Thats a pretty common swap and with the svt stuff on it, i think its 200hp and im not sure on the tq numbers. zx3tuning.com i think has a write up.

Re: Focus Zetec/SVT Engine Swap

The swap is fairly common, but don't be fooled and leave it up to mechanics to do it. My advice to you is to leave it up to professional conversion specialists, those who specialize in perfoming swaps, and do the necessary research to do it right. Or, have you ever considered a Turbo? In Europe, they make a RS version of the focus with a 4cyl Turbo. Be the first one to do that.

I couldn't help but let you in...

Now tell me that's not sweet. I'd be afraid, and embarrassed, at stoplights, not knowing what was under the hood. And think what would happen when you popped the hood to your friends that all own Mustangs, Camaros, etc.

The SVT isnt too much of a step from the ZX3. Like everyone said, its an extra 40hp and like 10lb-ft TQ, but is that really worth it when you come to think that you will probably be spending $4K or more on a motor?

the svt really isn't a fast car like most of you guys said...however it does put a little pep in your step
that's what svt wanted to achieve
most focus owners i know would always be bitching about not having enough power...well here you are...a naturally aspirated svt tuned engine...it's up to the owner to decide what to do with it
i would find a way to squeeze more juice out of it without forced induction...but that's just my opinion
i don't really know if they sell svt focus's here in puerto rico i think you have to order it but damn if i had the money i would buy it no problem...even if ford has a bad reputation...
peace

What non-essential components (if any) would you have to sacrifice for a 4.6L swap...I figured A/C would be a must.

Would there be greater weight distrobution if a focus wagon was used instead of a zx3?
