98 firebird v6 w/ code p0300 help!

I have a 1998 pontiac firebird 3.8L v6 and i recently pulled the code p0300. online, i have found nearly 10 different things it could be and want a little direction. it begins misfiring randomly, generally once my car has reached operating temperature, and sometimes overheat while misfiring. Most of the time it stops misfiring, sometimes for day (for example, it misfired last night on the highway for the first time in nearly 4 days. the code even erased itself). When it begins misfiring, the engine light begins flashing. the smell of exhaust is more noticeable and sometimes spews what appears to be water from the front of the car. the problem feels like a vacuum problem (loss of torque, sucks down gas, choking). prior to this, i had fixed several cooling system problems but i dont know if they could be related. help?

Yes sir, the good old p0300. Well nothing to be alarmed about, its probably one, two or, hell let's make them all 3 of your coil packs going bad. Now, if you change your pack (best to do all three) and still the problem continues, then its probably your control module. To check the packs, simply disconnect every boot from the plugs (individually ofcourse) and watch which one doesn't have a spark. Or mix the up, you know take 1-3, and switch it 2-5 to see if it the pack or the module. Oh, and this is a fairly easy job, except for the last coil pack, that is going to kick your @#$ if you don't have.the right ratchet. Well, hope this helps.
