Heater/AC fan control issue

Hello-

First, a little background info. I'm a newbie to jeeps. We bought a '95 Jeep Cherokee (I think it's a sport edition but there's no defining tags on the body and we don't have an owners manual) for my wife about a year ago. At 97K (at time of purchase) it's in really good shape and to date we haven't had any severe mechanical issues with it. It's in really good shape and you can tell the PO was good to it.

But a few weeks ago the fan controls went out... sort of. The heat/ac selector works fine, and the position selector works fine as well. It's the speed selector that's acting up. The only speed the fan will start blowing at is 4- 1 to 3 and there's nothing. At $135 for a new control console I opted to find one from an auto salvage yard first. Luckily I found one, plugged it in, and the same thing happens; 1-3 nothing, position 4 the fan blows.

So I'm wondering- is this a common problem for heat/ac control consoles and the one I bought from the salvage yard had the same problem. Or, is it a wiring issue, and where might I check for a bad ground/loose connection/blown fuse, etc? Since I bought a spare control console and it had the same problem, I believe it to be a wiring issue. I have a chiltons manual that provides chassis and engine wiring diagrams, but no interior. And since we don't have the owners manual for it, there's a lot of fuses that I can't reference for which is which. The fuse panel on this particular jeep is located on the passenger side behind the kick panel.

Suggestions? Thanks!

It's your blower motor resistor. See the location in the link below. DO NOT follow the instructions, they are for removing the heater core.
