i inherited a 1995 grand prix gtp in 2005.
i have had very few problems with it until now.

i know pretty much nothing about the car, except that it says 24 valve v6 on the side (if that helps any).

recently it randomly wont start.
when i turn the key everything will turn on (radio, lights, etc) but it won't even make a clicking sound like it is trying to start. just silence.

it doesn't do this all the time.
just every once in a while, but when i took it to get looked at they said they have no idea what would cause that.

if i try to start it and it does this, i just wait about five mins and it starts up fine, like nothing is wrong.

it's happened twice this week alone though and i'm afraid soon it just wont start at all. even after waiting the five minutes.

does anyone have ANY idea what would cause this?

you'll need a test light or volt meter to determine your problem. Check for voltage at the small "s" terminal on the solenoid with the key in the start position.

If voltage is present, the starter/solenoid is the most likely cause. It could also be a frayed or corroded battery cable or weak battery not delivering enough amperage.

If no voltage is present, you have either a bad neutral safety switch (also known as a PRNDL switch), bad ignition switch or a broken wire to the starter.

Honestly, get rid of it. That motor (DOHC) is nothing but trouble. This is just the start of many wonderful and expensive repairs if they have not already been done. Everybody at the shop cringes when one of these rolls in!!

The 3.4 DOHC V6, if kept up, and you enjoy working on it, its a great motor. I wouldn't mind having one myself.
