Hello all. I have a 98 Jeep (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/#) and the cruise control is not working. The light does not come on when I hit the switch either.
I'm reading that it could be the brake (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/#) switch, the on/off switch or maybe the clockspring. Is there somewhere I can get the voltages that should be at these switches or maybe the ohms for them before I go buy new ones?
Any ideas are welcome - I'm driving (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/#) to Colorado for a week of 4 wheeling and it would be nice to have the cruise control working!

Have you found out whats wrong?? Im having the same issue. Cruise control may turn on right after I start the car....but once I drive for a minute or two it shuts off and wont turn on again until I turn the car off and start it again. Any help would be appreciated!

I have a 99 cherokee, and my cruise is not working also. A mechanic looked it over one day after fixing a wheel bering for me and he checked the vacuum lines, OK, he checked the switch on the left hand side of the steering wheel, OK, then he checked the clockspring...........BINGO !!!!
Not a cheap repair tho.

Were you experiencing the work for awhile, stop working, restart vehicle and would work for awhile? And how much is "not cheap?"
Thanks.

Yes, it would work periodically, the last time just a few weeks ago for about 1 week it worked. No real rhyme or reason on when it would or not work.
I think the guy quoted me about $300-$350 to fix.
Thanks.

Thanks much for the response. I'll see if that fixes it and post the results.

A little update on my situation.... the cruise has been working about 99% of the time right now with no repaior done on it ! Dont ask me why or how, but it's working for the time being. This would really drive someone to drink ! As long as it's working like it is, there is no reason from me to get it fixed at the present time.

Mine worked perfectly for a one week 1500 mile road trip then stopped working on the return trip 30 miles from my house. And drinking does help.
I'm trying to decide whether to attempt clockspring replacement myself. With the exception of the airbag it seems pretty straightforward.
