The transmission has gone out of my 96 Lumina Sedan and I want to get a used transmission to put back into it. Are there other vehicles whose transmissions are compatable? Or am I limited to just another Lumina?

i have a 95 lumina with the DOHC 3.4 and my transmission blew 2 monthes ago, 1st and 3rd gear dropped out of it as well as the overdrive, we searched and spoke to a few different people about where we could replace it and how much, final solution was mr. transmission who did a pretty good job, cost $2400 tho :(...good luck and i hope you can get it done cheaper than i did

While the 4T60E is the platform transaxle in your vehicle, there are subtle variations of that model. Your best bet is to get a straight swap or a rebuilt, but if you're desperate, most any similar-year GM FWD 3100 will fit.
But, like I said, because of the various submodels of the 4T60E you'd probably be better off to have it done professionally or at least from another 96 3100.
