Turn signal problem

Our 97 Neon's turn signal just started acting crazy. The rear left turn signal light wasn't working so I replaced the bulb. Now when we signal a left turn, both sides of the rear flashers flash as if the emergency switch is on. Any body know why this is happening? No problem with the right turn signal lights or the emergency flashers. THis is just happening with the left turn signal. Thanks for any help given.

Try doing a search in this forum, looking for 'multi-function switch', or multifunction or multi function swtich. Thats the assembly in the column just beyond the steering wheel. I think its known for causing problems. Its easy to damage the thing, just by catching the sleeve of a winter coat on the stalk and cracking the plastic parts - which has happened to us.

heh i wonder if these problems are similar; my turn signal indicator randomly goes out for my right blinker and my entire light up display goes out randomly yet the outer lights still work
