wheel bearings from ZZP

I bought a set of wheel bearings from zzp for my 2000 gt. Has anyone bought wheel bearings from them? The box they came in has the label cut off, so I don't know the brand. I just figured if they're from zzp, they are probably good. They were $65 a piece.

Nope. That could be an invalid assumption. Yeah I heard about that a few months ago but really didn't think anyone would buy them but it looks like I am wrong. :grinno:

Any numbers on the hubs? Did they come with the 3 hub bolts and an axle nut?

From the pic definitely not GM/AC Delco. Hopefully it is not a Made in China.

About all I can say is definitely not GM/AC Delco then for sure. Delco hubs come with the axle nut and 3 hub bolts plus the wheel studs are either a greenish or bluish color. Also, GM's packaging is excellent with full labeling. I guess it is some aftermarket brand. Send an email to ZZP Customer Service and ask them. Speaking of ZZP I just ordered a few items from them yesterday. :grinyes:

Nothing much. Time for the annual supercharger oil change. Just enough SC oil to do two M90s. ZZP has a re-packaged version where you don't have to buy two bottles of the GM SC oil. For my GTP and Regal GS.

Also, the ZZP Shift Kit done at the accumulator. For the Regal GS. I'm going to do some speculative PM and head off any possible future P1811 DTC. Maybe reduce wear on the clutch packs. A pan drop with the screen filter which is part of the kit and a conversion to Dexron VI. :uhoh: Also, adding a Dorman tranny pan drain plug kit. I have the Thrasher Shift Kit in my GTP but the ZZP kit is the same with more shims and cheaper. Also, it has the MSP aluminum finned higher capacity tranny pan with drain plug which is no longer made or available.

Plus I installed a DHP v1.0 PCM from PFYC a few weeks ago into the Regal. Just to get the speed limiter removed and take advantage of the better cooling fan turn on point and 2 minute fan turn on when ignition is set to off. No other mods planned since it is my daily driver.

I'll probably document the shift kit, Dex VI and drain plug mods and post at Tips & Maintenance.

Thatd be great if you could do so, and where can i pickup a DHP 1.0v in canada? :screwy:

In Canada? :dunno:

But I'm quite sure US companies ship to Canada. Just go via UPS and they'll handle the customs clearance aspect. I've ordered high performance parts from Canada (Z-Spec) and no problems getting to me. However, UPS Supply Chain Solutions hit me up in a separate bill with US Customs duties and brokerage fees which wasn't that bad. :runaround:

Well, here is the shift kit from ZZP and the Dorman drain kit part number 091-04 packaged under the Oil-Tite label. Now all I need is the Dexron-VI which I found at Walmart for under $3 per quart under the Super Tech label and find time to do the work. BTW - The screen filter is a Filtran brand.

Thats a shift kit? Where are the accumulators and springs? Or am I thinking of something else.

Where do you install that plug into your tranny pan so it doesnt interfere and it doesnt get ripped off by accidentally bottoming your car out?

You gonna type up a tutorial when you do this bob? That would be awesome!

And you trust the supertech dexrom VI wal-mart brand in your GTP?

You may be thinking about the basic Intense/Transgo Kit which has the springs, o-ring seals and spacers less the screen filter but at a higher cost. With the ZZP kit all you get are the spacers but it comes with the Filtran screen filter. After the pan drop you'll remove the accumulator, the accumulator cover and then pull both 1-2 and 2-3 springs and pistons. The spacers go between the pistons and housing per the instructions. The spacers limit travel of the pistons which firms up the shifts. The instruction sheet covers the install quite well. Plus see pic below. The colored squares show where to install the spacers.

Good question but just a chance you have to take. IMO the subframe does a good job of protecting the bottom of the engine and transaxle. I've never had a problem with pan damage. The best place to install it is at the corner area of the passenger side of the pan. That is where most aftermarket pans have the drain and no contact with any internal tranny components.

Yes, I plan on documenting the install and taking pics. And post at Tips & Maintenance.

:uhoh:

Not really but I'm going to see how my luck is. After all the stuff is licensed by GM and has to meet certain specs. :dunno: This install will be in my Regal GS. I did the GTP tranny service last October and it already has a shift kit and aftermarket oil pan. The main reason of going with the cheaper Supertech Dex VI is I plan on doing another drain after about a week of operation and testing. Then substitute Castrol Dex VI ($5.79 per qt). There will be co-mingling of the residual old Dex III and the new Dex VI since you really can't get all the old Dex III out. Hope this makes sense.

Yeah it makes sense. I'm just asking questions, I dont doubt you knowledge, just trying to increase mine.

And now I understand about the shift kit too.

Maybe you can tell me if there is a way to find out if my car has a reprogrammed PCM already installed. It seems to shift different than my g/f's se (i know two completly different cars), but my shifts are way firmer, more pronounced (especially OD) even with performance shift off. It even already does the 3 to 1 skip shifts. It would be interesting to find out.

Come to think of it.... Last summer when I went to install a set of gatorback belts, the serpentine belt went on easy, but the supercharger belt went on hard. I have the tensioner all the way back and it was hard to slip the belt on. Almost like it was too short. Or maybe someone put a larger idler pulley on to accomodate for a smaller SC pulley. Then when they sold it, the dealer replaced the smaller SC pulley with the original, making the bel fit a little tight.

Or are they all hard to get on? SOrry off topic again....

No problem Tim. Purpose of auto forums is to share knowledge.

With the stock 3.8" SC pulley they all feel hard to get to me compared to the main serpentive drive.

On the PCM possible but may be hard to tell without opening the airbox to find out for sure. DHP, Intense and ZZP affix a label so it is hard to miss. Or maybe the previous owner used a PowerTuner but left no audit trail. Or installed a shift kit. There are some other ways to tell on the PCM. What are your fan turn on points with A/C off. Most Stage 1 or basic re-programmed PCMs are programmed for fan turn on at around 185 degrees. Also, the fans will come on for 90 seconds to two minutes with the ignition to off as long as coolant temperature is around 180 degrees or greater. At WOT (pedal to the metal) and full automatic upshifting what do your RPMs read when it shifts, i.e. shift point?

i hope that shift kit didn't cost much...i did the OK shift kit (essentially the same thing as the ZZP does) for about $2.50 worth of stainless sleeves...

Well, lets say the cost didn't break the piggy bank. :grinno:

The screen filter is worth at least $10-$15 and I guess the rest was the ZZP name behind the product and the ZZP decal. Somewheres around $29.99.

OK shift kit? Never heard of it. What did it come with and any reference data or links? How many shift level settings via the spacers? And does it work with higher line pressure like running performance shift in addition to a re-programmed PCM module in a GTP or Regal GS?

yeah Bob, My fan turn on points seem normal. So maybe My PCM my PCM is still stock.

I'm gonna go take a look at the plugs that were in there to see if they were colder than origonals.

I stall have them.... all six HA HA

it is just some guys in Okalhoma that provided the info on which spacers to put in to firm up the shifts...i have a dhp 1.0, and hooked up performance shift via a switch...you can mix and match the heights of the spacers to get the shift firmness you want on the 1-2 and the 2-3...i used the most aggressive (tallest) spacers on mine, love it...

As long as you are happy with it is all that matters. Hopefully you don't have it firmed up too much to cause premature hardware failure. I'm going with the mid settings. The DHP v1.0 PCM does a good job on the shifts even without the shift kit.

Well, off to Walmart tonight to get the Dex VI.

it really only shifts hard on high rpm WOT shifts...othewise it's fairly invisible other that the shifts are MUCH quicker than stock...
