I was checkin out the Pontiac Website and didnt realize that the 3800 is still in use and looks the same. It says one of the most legendary engine of the millenium, anyone else agree with this. From what i hear the 3.8 is hard to kill.
seems that they are now using electronic controlled throttle no, no more linkage. Also i noticed GM stuck with a coil pack instead of coil on plug like most cars seem to have today.

Yeah the newer 3800's (2004 and later) are "drive by wire"-- you can't excerise the throttle underhood- have to be inside or use a TechII scan tool.
Also, you don't "start" the car anymore-- you tell it to start and it starts itself-- if you hold the key in start position too long- no big deal- if you barely turn it to start- no big deal-- it knows what you want it to do. Also the newer trucks now do not have a start wire- the BCM "knows" to start the car when the ignition is "on" and the "accessory" is off-- eliminates another wire in the ignition switch. Have you noticed they don't put passenger side key holes/tumblers in cars anymore??

GM does not make the 3.8 anymore, they discontinued it and replaced it with a 3.5 v6.The rear wheel drive 3.8 v6s were junk in the early 1980s.If you want to know,Gm did try making v6s in the 1960s and they were junk what I heard

Where are you getting your information from? Funny how a lot of 2008 GM models still have the Series III 3800 engine.

Your father? And what exactly does your father do? I'd consult mine but he's dead. Just to get things straight post facts not speculation and support them with links to credible information supporting your position. The SIII 3800 is still being built by GM in Flint, MI and production on it will not stop for a few months or more contrary to your claim it is no longer made. GM had a press release out in 1999 stating the demise of the 3800 and it never panned out. Then another one in 2005 and we can see it is still around. It is still delivered in the 2008 base model Pontiac Grand Prix, Buick LaCrosse and Buick Lucerne and we may still see it in the 2009 model year. The 3800 originally designed by Buick is one of the best American engines ever built next to the small block Chevy engine.

Yea well i know for a fact that the 3800 is still in use, because it is written right on the engine cover of the new 2008 cars, not to mention is almost identical to the older models like on my car at first glance, only small outer differences so it appears
