Glasspack Mufflers... How do they sound?

Okay, I recently put a flowmaster muffler on my 84 Z28 and it did a little bit for the sound, but not a whole lot. I thought it would make my car sound awesome, but my car sounds loud, but not a very good "loud." My dad told me about a glasspack muffler I could throw on there and he said it gives off a "crackling" sound, but a good one. Ive heard of some cars that you can hear from 1/2 mile away and they sound awesome, and Im thinking these mufflers are the ones that are on them. So, i dont have headers, just a regular exhaust manifold, a single 2'' pipe going back and a glasspack muffler and dual pipes out the back. Any ideas on how it would sound??? ps: I have a 305 non-hypo.

using a good old cherry bomb glass pack? I think they sound good, not too loud at idle but when you punch it, it sounds almost like straight pipe, since it is almost a straight pipe. :grinyes: they sound redneck? yup.:icon16:

Okay so you are saying not to use the glasspack>? I have heard some new mustangs and they sound f'n amazing. Ofcourse theyve been modified but you can hear them 1/2 mile away. Its a muscle car sound but it almost sounds like crackling, but a dam good crackling sound.

you probably heard a mustang with an "H" pipe setup. they are louder then a lot of "x" pipe setups. As far as your glass pack goes in my area you can still get a brand new cherry bomb for $20. try one and see if you like it, if not its $20 thats like 3/4 of a gallon of gas. :grinyes: sound is a personal preference anyway.

Hmm. Yea maybe. What is the difference? So your saying little cherry bombs sound good? My car would have one single pipe back, a cherry bomb, then 2 duals coming out. I just want something that sounds good (preferably good and loud), not loud and clanky (like it is rightnow w/my flowmaster)

No dual stingers would sound very good and let engine breath better one would choke it so if you can go dual cherry bomb mufflers a no no cheap and burn out fast. I street face Ferrari's and my Lamborghini and believe me no crappy cherry bombs sound better then a pair of stingers. Take it from a 12 time trophy wimmer.

my '85 iroc has 2.5" straight pipe, cat only. I think it sounds ok. A glass pack will sound similar but quieter. you probably have a carb. they always crackle more than a fuel injected engine. you will probably change the exhaust several times and still may not be happy with it. A glass pack is cheap enough to try it, and if you don't like it you can still use it for anything, even some farm tractors. I have some just laying around, they seem to never rust out. I've changed exhaust on every car I've ever owned, and still go back to straight pipes....just my preference, and I always feel ripped off when the new exhaust systems dont sound a lot cooler then the straight pipe. just the redneck in me..:icon16:

you got that right and if you want to barley stay street legal and carbs do not crackle.

you got that right and if you want to barley stay street legal and carbs do not crackle. here glass packs or straight pipes are NOT "legal" anyway, so I took for granted "we" werent too worried about being "legal". sorry, should have specified. I should not recommend doing the things I get away with, so think nothing of it.
