alright, so i like this car a lot except for this annoying thing it started doing of stalling out randomly.
seems as though theres no spark OR fuel. (fuel pump doesnt kick on, sparks didnt really seem like it was sparking...) the engine does crank
so im assuming its a 'kill' function built into the ECU.
what can cause this function?
1) oil level drops?
2) fuel level too high?maybe? (only happens when its HOT, downhill..)
3) ECU wires shorting out?
4) idk?
im gonna lift up the car tommorow to check under it to see if all the wires are ok.
if the fuel level gets too high, can it cause vapor lock in a EFI system? if the charcoal canister is busted? its weird, cuz after we wait maybe 2-3 hours, if the ambient temp goes DOWN, the car will start.

Does she key code? A bad crankshaft position sensor will stop her from starting, happened to my '98.

crankshaft sensor? i gotta check the code but i cant drive her down cuz sometimes she randomly stops lol..
ok, so i checked ignition and fuel and BOTH get cut when the car stalls out.
its gotta be the ECU KILL function, where it prevents the engine from starting so that we dont kill the car.. what can cause this?
im assuming:
1)crank position sensor
2) camshaft position? - for the igin. timing? but shouldnt it still TRY to spark?
3) LOW oil level?
4) knock sensor (does the neon have one?)
-das/denni, i checked the wire harness, its dirty and oily but its NOT shorting or cut anywhere...it doesnt run anywhere near the exhaust manifold so i am really confused.
i DO know that the spark AND the fuel are not working tho..
any ideas? suggestions?

Are you familiar with the key code method of pulling codes, You do not need a scanner to do this.

hmm ive done it on a firebird before. im not sure how on a neon. for the firebird i had to jump two leads with a paperclip to read..is the neon similar?

Far easier, put key in ignition and turn key to on (not start) then off, then on, then off and then on (on off, on off, on) and leave ignition in on. The CEL will start to blink, count the blinks (example one blink and a pause and two blinks and a long pause is code 12, battery disconnected sometime during last 50 starts) when you get to code 55 that is end of test. post the results here and we will tell you what the results are.

You can also go to www.dodgetalk.com/forums and click on the Neon forum and there you will find the OBD II codes for your car.
