I was wondering if it's better to lower you car with coil overs or springs and how low before you would need new shocks for ride quality

coilovers are you best bet as long as they are the full coilover and not the ones that you can get for 100 dollars. if you want to spend the money on a good set of coilovers TIEN would be the way to go. if you want the ride quallity and the actual performance and not pay out the ass. i would go with a set of springs. TIEN also makes springs and the are pretty good at doing there research on hondas.

For me Tokicos HP Series, (I had it on my 92 lude) are the best suspension kit ever. Really easy to install. no more than $350 (springs - shocks), try to look for a good deal on ebay..saddly they don't have those kit for sentra's :-(...Good Luck!

yeah. and dont listen to anyone who says buy tein. tein sucks. end of story. the only product they make that is even decent is their full n1 dampers that are custom valveable and fully rebuildable, and are waaaay to expensive. all their other shit is overpriced and underquality. tokico dampers are decent, also koni, KYB, ect. if you want full coilovers, you still cant go wrong with a set of konis custom valved by someone who knows their shit(like ground control) with matching springs.
as to your question, i wouldnt get lowering springs with stock dampers. ever. dampers and springs have to be upgraded together, or else your car will probably start to handle worse than stock.
