p0440 error

1997 cavalier
my code reader said that the evap system has a fault in numbered
p0440.
i know its in the evap system.
freeze frame says its in the following...fuel sys 2 cl-fault.
what does this mean and how or what do i fix to remove this error.

this is what it reads.

if i remember correctly, one of the repairs for this was to replace the "vent valve" it is an emissions valve near the gas tank- dealer item only, it's been like two years since i worked at the dealer but i think the part # is 15215729 about 30 bucks or so. i would check a little further before assuming anything

The code you have is one of the least important ones so don't loase any sleep over it. The most common reason for a p0440 code to show up is not putting the gas cap back on or putting it on wrong. If the seal on the cap is bad you can also get this code.

Best bet - clear the code, see if/when it comes back. Go from there.
