Best option to get replacement keyless entry remote on a 97 LeSabre Limited?

I recently purchased a 97 LeSabre Limited that is close to fully loaded and in very good condition. It had the keyless entry system installed, however those remotes were missing when I purchased the vehicle. It seems I need a remote to change a few options about how the automatic door locks work (I don't want it to unlock the doors everytime I shift into park), and of course it'd be handy to have a remote for the car anyway. I do not have any documentation that tells of any codes or anything else that might be needed to program a new remote and I get the feeling I'll probably need to go to a dealership to get a new one. What is the best way for me to obtain a new remote (or two), and how much would I be looking at cost-wise? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Go to chipkeys.com. Their number is 701-852-8161. I used them for some ignition keys for my 2000 lasabre and I got GM keys at less than half of the dealers price. I am pretty sure they sell the remotes also. And they will talk to you over the phone for any questions. I was well pleased.

I actually think you can get a new or slightly used remote on ebay for ~$25 shipped. It will include the instructions to program it to your car, the only downside is that it will reset any remotes currently attached to the car (so you should be good).

I just purchased one of these for a friends Grandma's Century, it worked perfectly.

Good luck!

I got 3 remotes for my 97 off eBay. I think I payed $5 for one. $10 for the other two each (Bought them all separate, at different times).

I could not get them to work so I went to the dealer, gave them my VIN and they looked up and found my car didn't come with a factory remote.

To bad we can't sell anything here, I'd let them go cheap.

What I did was wait for a good price. Don't bid on the first one, they show up all the time.

**The most imporant thing to remember is to make sure you match up the number you need, with what number is on the back of the remote.

Chris.

Check this website
http://www.originalkeyless.com/product.sc?productId=537&sourceCode=froogle
notice they specifically give the part number and a FCC code for the remote that goes with the car. When buying on Ebay or elsewhere, that's hat you use to match up the remote.

FCC KOBUT187
GM 25678793

You also could check at recycling yards for used remotes.

Oh but you can. There is a special sub forum on this site found here:http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1269 . You can sell cars and /or parts at this sub forum, and it gets traffic from all over the site to check out the posts.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. Those are all far, far cheaper options than I was expecting. Even the Original Keyless place is quite reasonable. I did not know that those things could be user programmed.
