'99 Cirrus instrument guages work, but they are not lit so can't see them at night. Can't see anything at night but the mileage and what gear I'm in. Checked fuse for instrument cluster, but it's okay. Anyone have any idea what it could be?

Just found an owner's manual indicating there is a light bulb in the instrument cluster. Can I get to this bulb to replace it myself? How much of the dash has to be removed to do this? I'm trying to fix this for my mom. This is her only transportation and she needs to be able to see the guages at night. Thanks for any help!

I'm not sure if you have fixed this problem yet, but if not... This will help.
My wife's 2000 Cirrus LXi had the EXACT same problem. The Headlights would work, the gauges worked, but there was no backlighting. I tried replacing the four bulbs in the back of the gauge cluster, checked all the fuses, and made sure the wiring and connectors were all good. I ended up taking the car to a local mechanic and he could not fix it either. So I gave in and took it to the Chrysler Dealer, They had the problem fixed in a matter of 30 mins. They said it was a "flat battery." I don't see why that would cause the problem, but it did seem to fix it.
Good Luck!

I didn't know what a "flat" batter was and had to look it up. That's probably what it was because last winter the battery died completely one 'cold' day, and after installing a new battery the dash and radio lights have worked great. Hope this post helps someone else who may have this problem. I figured if the battery worked good enough to start the car, it would work the dash lights, but I must have been wrong.
