Where would the fuel filter be located on the Cherokee Sport, and do you need special tools to change out?

The fuel filter on 97 and later Cherokees is part of the fuel pump/sending unit assembly inside the fuel tank. It can be removed without dropping the fuel tank but you will not have very much room. It will be much easier to drop the fuel tank to get to it. You shouldn't need any special tools.

If you suspect the fuel filter or a fuel restriction you should test the fuel pressure at the fuel rail.

thanks for the reply, If I wanted to check the fuel pressure, is there a pressure tap @ the fuel rail that I can put a gauge on and check the pressure my self?

There is a Schrader valve on the fuel rail you can screw the pressure gauge into. What does the Jeep do to make you think there is a fuel restriction?

thanks for the reply. I really don't have any problems right now. I just wanted to know for future reference in case I do start to have trouble I can compair it to when it was running right. Also my gas gauge is acting up and not reading right, my under standing is that the fuel pump/sending unit/filter are one unit.

on 97 and later XJ, there is no schrader valve, you need to have a special "T" adapter.
