Last Sat. night I ran over a piece of broken up pavement that was laying in the road and it just so happen to fly up and break my outer crankshaft pulley off....go figure.:banghead:
It was raining like you wouldnt believe and the street had no street lights so I never even seen it coming. My belt was still hang on my alternator, still in one piece and not a wear mark on it.
Took it to the dealership and was qouted $500 with about $340 being for the new crankshaft pulley and the rest labor. Does this sound right to you guys? :shakehead

the only way to kinda check the dealer is to go to a local shop and see what they can get the part for and what their labor is. They go by the book for hours for a job, so the labor just comes down to what they charge an hour. The only reason I would take it to the dealer for this is if they are cheaper (prolly never happen), if no other shop can get the part or you are under waranty.

Wow... I wouldn't expect the pulley to cost that much...

Is it the harmonic balancer that your talking about. I don't know much about cars but I did see that when I went to that website. Mine just went out on my car and had to replace everything in that general. If your in there might as well change timing belt, pulleys, water pump etc....
Now I could be wrong or I could even be in the wrong area...so don't laugh at my post. I changed everything on my 2001 a few weeks ago and it was just over 500 bucks.

My dealer ended up fixing it under my warranty. Just had to pay my $100 deductible.

Are they two seperate things, the harmonic balancer and pulley? That was all that came up when I clicked on "Crankshaft Pulley" so I assumed they were interchangeable terms, probably wrong though.
