1996 Jimmy - How to remove the trailer hitch?

The trailer hitch on my Jimmy is looking pretty weatherbeaten (epoxy electrocoat only lasts so long out in the sun). Rather than trying to mask off the bumper and give it a half-ass paint job, I wanted to remove it and give it a good complete painting.
I thought I could just undo the four nuts that hold it on, but it looks like the bolts they attach to are really studs. If I look at the bolt/stud's other end, it is mostly round with two flats on either side. This means I have to hammer them out somehow so I can slide the hitch off? I suppose I could also put a wrench on the flats and twist them lose, but I think that would make them harder to reinstall. Any thoughts on the best way to do this? Thanks!
