99 Cougar headlights dimming

When driving at night with the blower on high the headlights will dim and the blower motor drag down when you take your foot off the gas. I would guess it to be a alternator or a voltage regulator. What do you all think? Is the voltage regulator built into the alternator?

Or is this normal for the Cougar? We just bought it for our 16 yr old girl.

I get no alternator warning light on the dash when this happens.

Thanks

Bill

It could also be corroded battery cables. Some autoparts stores like Autozone will test your charging system and battery for free.

After checking to forums and doing alot of research it seems that this happens quite often. Some say it is a bad end on the alternator cable, others say it is the alternator. I have even seen a post that said it was the fuel injectors.

Any one else have a different cause?

Any one else have a different cause?I recently purchased my '99 cougar 6 cylinder from a dealer, lights were dimming.I took the car back & they said it was caused by a wiring harness problem. There is a recall for service listed by FORD MOTOR CO. My dealership covered the cost of my repair, probibly because I had just purchased the car.
