38mm tire offset work on a 92 Geo?

Hello all. I was just looking for some custom wheels (13x5.5) for a 92 Geo Metro, and came across a bunch with 38mm offset. Would that offset work on a Geo? Anyway, I found three-four different wheels that are 13x5.5 with the 4x114.3 bolt pattern, and 38mm offset, for between $55 and $70 a rim. Anyway, I just want to know if that offset would work. I heard that anything between 35-40mm would work, but just want to be sure. Thanks!

Any of you have an idea about this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Since I've had no responses I assume that these rims would work with no problems?

Your best resource for wheel information is going to be teamswift.net. Everything you could possibly want to know has been covered there

Just wanted to follow up on this thread. 13x5.5 rims with 38mm offset will work perfectly on Geo Metros. Metros have a 4x114.3 lug pattern. The BEST tire that will work for 13" rims on Metros are P175/60R13s, if you can find them. They're hard to come by nowadays, unless you know where to look for them. I had that same size rim and tire on my Ford Festiva when I owned it, and they were so much better than the stock 12x4 rims and 12" tires.

Do you know if the bolt distance on a 97 metro is the same, 4x114.3?
Do you really like the wide 60's?
I bought the skinniest tire I could find during the gas price hikes of 2006,
165/80x13. For the best mileage.

Well you should get the kind of tire that would work best for you. I got the wider tires for performance and traction/steering. They were really good in rain too though. Narrow tires are good if you don't care about those things, or are satisfied with the stock tire size, but just want larger.

As for the 97 Metro, unsure if it is 4x114.3 or not. I'm just learning about stuff for my 92 Metro..not for other years. If I find out soon though, I'll let you know....but I'm sure other people on here know that.

The bolt pattern did not change. Older metro owners like to pick up late model rims to switch to 13 in rims. I happen to be using a set of alloys I got off of a 92ish metro in a junk yard.

DanMan7, I’d like to know where you found your wheels. I’ve been hunting on the internet for wheels without much luck. Were they from a retail outlet or an individual?

My car was shaking a little at 70mph, so I recently had my tires rotated and balanced (free at the same place I bought the tires from some time ago). The service tech told me that my wheels were bent, and showed one to me on the balancing machine; they certainly do wobble. He suggested its probably a common problem with these cars because the metal is so thin. The only replacement stock wheels (12x4) I’ve found used online cost an arm-and-a-leg, plus shipping. And if this is a common problem, won’t the replacement rims eventually bend also? An alternative to stock wheels might be my answer, or a cheap supply of stock rims to tap into when an old one gets warped.

That's where I'm going to get my wheels from. Check them out! Fairly reasonable (around $58 a wheel for 13x5.5).

Interesting post. More to this, is there any way to make the newer 13" Metro stock rims fit the older Metro 12" setup? I bought a good set of 13s with center caps from a salvage yard on misinformation, only to find that they fit, but the bolts are way different....would love to know if I could buy aftermarket lugnuts with the newer diameter & the older thread size......
Mine is a '93, the junkyard rims are from a '98.
