Hi guys I am doing a side job and this thing has a rough idle. I put the scanner on it and pulled code 43 ESC and a ritch and lean code from the O2 sensors. I know the O2 codes are probley from running rough. It has been a while but could the knock sen be the problem or the ESC itself? I looked for the ESC by the throttle body but didn't see it. I remember what they look like but this is a late model 94 are they some where else? any help would be great thanks Jim

Hey guys, I have a 1994 Chevy C1500 ½ ton 2 wheel drive 5.7 Liter engine with an automatic trans that has been giving me a code 43. All of my research has pointed to a knock sensor. However, after replacing this part “which is by the starter, opposite the flywheel side” had no effect. So after more research I was looking at an ESC module. Now before purchasing this $40 to $60 dollar part, go to the passenger side of your 94 under the hood and open the electrical panel on the firewall. “It is in the shape of on obtuse letter T. It has three plastic nuts two on top and one below. This is in plain sight just below your wipers. Not to mention this requires no special tools to remove. “Just your fingers” You will see a fuse casing behind this cover connected to an orange wire, open this fuse case and inspect the fuse. It should be a short glass fuse in a tube shape. Replace it according to the voltage and amperage on the fuse……..This solved my check engine light for the code 43…..
Please write me if this helps anyone!

There is a dark blue wire coming through a metal conduit rear of the starter. This wire may rub on the sharp edge and ground the knock circuit. I've add a sliced piece of vacuum hose to protect the wire bundles on several mid 90s chevy trucks.
