Top ten worst cars

Saw on the news last week that the Aveo was number 10 in the top 10 of the worst cars. Kind of glad I sold my 2006 now. Always had this gut feeling that the car wasn't up to par. Here is the quote:
"10. Chevrolet Aveo Chevy likes to tout the Aveo as the “lowest-priced [new] car in America." In spite of their warning “content may vary,” it’s easy to see how they achieved that goal. From the hollow-sounding doors, bargain-basement plastics and skinny tires to the coarse-sounding engine that strains when faced with even the slightest incline, it exudes “cheap” from every ounce of its being. The Aveo also refutes the smart shopper’s mantra “you get what you pay for.” In the case of this captive Korean import, you pay little and get even less. - FW"
The others were:
9. Lincoln Mark LT
8. Saab 9-7x
7. Subaru B9 Tribeca
6. Chevrolet Monte Carlo
5. Hummer H2
4. Chrysler Aspen
3. Buick Rendezvous
2. Jeep Compass
1. ANY GM minivan
I guess the good point to make is that all the other cars cost a lot more and are rated worse so you lose less with an Aveo.

Big whoop. One person's/magazine's opinion. You know what they say about opinions...
Lists of Top/Bottom/Best/Worst of anything impress me little.

Not really one person's opinion. It is voted on by the readers, not the magazine.

So all those readers have spent time driving all ten of those cars? That's kind of hard to believe. If they didn't, it's worse than an opinion...it's opinion based on nothing.
If it's just the magazine's employees or some of the car's owners doing the rating, it's still the opinion of very few people and I do not put much stock in it.

What kind of credible report rates and ranks individual vehicles then you get to number one and see...1. ANY GM minivan
My experience with the Aveo completely refutes that write up. That's not to say the Aveo is the greatest car ever produced but it does its job well, as a lot of people can attest to. And I'm sure there are Aveo owners that back up that article based on their experience. Then you have those people where a piece of plastic falls off on the inside of the trunk and the next thing you know they're preaching about it being the biggest peice of crap ever made.
Do you really expect award winning performance for $8k? Come on!
I would put the Aveo in the top ten best cars for people who think it's stupid to spend a lot of money on cars.
A car is like any other appliance as far as I'm concerned. A car does not define you. It doesn't make you tough or cool or smart. It gets you from point a to point b.
Spend enough time talking to people and you'll see that even consumer reports beloved honda and toyota have owners that hate those cars.
The strangest thing is how many people were so quick to jump on that article from cr. I've had 4 people at work contact me in the past 2 days saying, did you see your car was ranked in the top 10 worst cars? My response is, why do you care so much? Does it somehow make you feel better to relay that to me? I don't get it. Does it make people feel superior that consumer reports thinks they are driving the best car? I'm better than you because my car is better? Hmmm...the people that approached me drive Honda, Toyota and Lexus. Why do people care so much about what I drive?

Everyone can STOP jumping on me. I did not write the article OR vote on the cars. I just thought it might be interesting to Aveo owners so I posted it. I made one comment that the article wasn't one person's opinion just to clarify. If these people all rented all these cars or own them or have relatives who own them, I don't know and don't care. Pardon me for being informative or trying to contribute to this forum.

I really don't see the original post as being at all helpful or informative, I find it to be more insulting than anything. But again that's just my opinion.
But seeing as you felt the need to post it, why would you get bent over the discussion that forms as a result of your posting?
Time and time again I search through various forums and notice that the forums are polluted with posts that have absolutely no value. It's annoying.
Think before you post...Maybe ask, is it of value to the owners of these vehicles to see an article that says they own one of the worst cars out there? I think common sense says no.
Maybe it comes down to the fact that you need to justify the loss you took on the Aveo that you got rid of.

I am Glad you posted it! This is a forum for discussions. I own an 04 Aveo i bought 6 months ago that was a 2 year old left over! I paid $7995 for it fully loaded 4 door hatchback. It had only 147 miles on it. For the most part I think its a terrific little car. Im taking it in tomorrow for the first time as it already has 14K miles in just the 6 months I have owned it. I drive long distance each way to my job and all 14k is highway miles. I dont get to read many magazines as i work a lot and to see this posted is the only chance i got to know that it existed! I hate to say but i think the head gasket went on my lil car. Runs rough and a slight milky white under the oil cap. Anyway.... If the post was .. you cars suck... that would have been a reason the be annoyed..

in a sense i agree with the article cus i mean lets face it the aveo is not an expensive car, made with top quality parts but it does get the job done. i love my little car and i am finding things to do to it to makle it more enjoyable to drive. i think it feels pretty sporty on the inside and i am totally comfortable in my aveo. i guess the thing is, if you dont like it, then dont buy it. i am not endorsing this article, but i am thankful for the information that phantom put out here.

My 2004 Aveo sedan is THE worst car by far that I've ever owned...and I've owned a few; even a '64 Buick. If the car was an airplane, we'd call it a "hangar queen". Good think I bought the extended warrranty.

Well, my opinion is, worst or best is relative. If you want to buy a car, you have to focus on many aspects, but some people just see one aspect and other aspects doesn't matter.
For example, my girlfriend drives a red 2004 Aveo, she bought it not because of the technology, price, or quality. She just loves the red and the shape/model of the Aveo. For her is the best car ever.
A different example is when a friend bought a Toyota Yaris, the model really sucks but he just love the VVT-i technology. He says that thats the best car ever.
For me, its all relative.

Phantom,
There's nothing wrong with your thread at all. All your post did was give Aveo owners a little 'food for thought.' Additionally, now that I'm in here posting a reply, I might add that one of my buddies bought an '05 new and the little 1.6L chewed a head gasket in 14k miles.
Anyone else have this experience?
-Mark T.
*edit*
Timguyli.. I just read through the other replies. I guess you had the same problem at the same damn time, too! Funny.
Phantom, one more thing. Dump the Chevy off a cliff and buy another real car!

Funny, I think most will comment the Aveo has one of the best quality interiors in terms of design and materials in its class. No dinky, cost-reduced for both RH and LH drive, center dash speedo mounted is a plus that's running over low class cars.

Well,
I have a '07 LS and love the little car. It has options my '06 Nissan Sentra doesn't and gets better mileage.
Just out of curiousity, was the rating "10" the worst rating or the "best" rating for the ten worst cars.
I'd buy the Aveo all over again!

My thoughts :2cents: are that GM (Chevrolet) does not know how to build an inexpensive car. They do know how to build a cheap car.
Vega
Monza (son of Vega)
Chevette
Spectrum
Nova (Prism version)
Geo Metro
Geo Tracker*
Aveo
* How could GM take the already built Suzuki Sidekick and actually make it a bad car? My Sidekick was highly reliable, but the GM version was so bad.
These all could have been nice cars with just a little bit of additional quality during these car's production run.

That list is a load of crap. I traded in a 2002 BMW 330i. I would have to say that the interior is up to par with the bmw. I love the Aveo as much as I loved the BMW. It has to be the best cheap car I have ever been in. The engine is smooth and quiet and I have no complaints with it. It is a fantastic car for what it is. Hello $9995, 5 year 100000 mile warranty!

you gotta remember that this list was compiled before the new aveos came out and chevy offered the new warranty. chevy has since made some (not all) the necessary improvements. can i ask tho, why did you trade in your beamer for an aveo. you went from upscale luxury car to cheap economy car. just curious.

What really troubles me is that you are actually comparing a bmw to an aveo...I just bought an aveo recently, 5 speed manual, and I thoroughly enjoy the car but comparing it to a bmw is like comparing chocolate to shit. BMW's all have 50/50 weight balance, most if i'm not mistaken have rear wheel drive, and overall the build quality is structurally better.
BMW is a luxury car whereas the Aveo is an economic car, it just cannot be compared in build quality.
But I do applaud the fact that you are defending the Aveo, putting down a list that it is one of the 10 worst cars is something in poor taste, but if you look at it another way, it is the 10th, not the 1st, 2nd, 3rd. So it's a LEAST bad car, LOL.
Oh well, just my .02

I would like to say that I strongly agree with what the quoted article says that the poster included in their post about the Aveo. I actually do not think it very attractive as a piece of art from the outside. But I give it one thing. It is an entertaining, comfortable and fun to drive.
The only reason I took up the chance to drive this car was I attended The GM Auto Show in Motion. When we first got there a lot of cars were available to drive. Only problem was that the cars I wanted to test drive had everyone else and their mother wanting to as well. With a wait time of 10 to 15 minutes or more for the popular cars to take out on a course for about 30 to 40 seconds only, I decided to spend some of my time driving the ones that had no wait.
So one of the cars I hopped in right away for fun was the Chevy Aveo. Seemingly uninspiring from the outside I decided to give it a chance just this once. Something funny happened to me though as I sat down in it. I realized the designers (some Italians I believe) were square on when designing the vehicle from a comfortable yet fun to drive standpoint. This was the first car I had sat in of this size and in this price range that had seats high enough off the ground to make the ease of getting in and out the car a breeze. This came as a relief to me because at that time I drove a 89 Honda Civic Si, which for those that know, is not too comfortable if your my height of 5'11".
After noticing this, as I closed the door and got a feel for the layout of the cockpit, oddly I felt very at home even though I had never sat in the car before. First off, I did not feel a bit cramped like I usually do in a small car. Yet I didn't feel like there was too much room as in the New VW Beetle. It was very much like the commercial Chevy made on the Aveo.
The next thing I noticed about the car was the cockpit. All the things I would need to reach for with my hands were in the right place. The steering wheel placement was just right. Not too far, not too close and just at the right angle for turning it seemed. Ergonomically the car seemed very well designed. The only thing I could find wrong with the car seemed to be getting the car out of park and into gear. It was equipped with an automatic transmission that required you to push down on the shift lever before you moved it into gear.
The best thing about this car though was the driving experience. As I stated earlier, I did not expect much from this car since physically it just didn't seem very appealing going in and you may be shocked by what I might say next. The thought of me actually driving one of these cars everyday really began to look like an option. As I began to drive it it was very easy to do so. With many new cars, having to adjust to the cars specific driving characteristics can be a chore. No so with the Aveo. Only one other car gave me this easy feeling. An old Accord Station wagon.
But as I threw it around the small test track I fell in love with it. It made the old Civic Si I put up on the rice rocket pedestal shrivel in comparison. Where my civic would normally start to plow as if the steering had gone dead if going above a certain speed where air drag is not a factor in effecting the cars handling abilities, the Aveo continued to turn sharper and smoother the more I turned the wheel. It was easy to jog the Aveo through the small left right left twisty they had set up.
Everything I experienced and enjoyed driving this car would not have been possible if I had not done so begin with. All I know is what this car lacks in style and build quality more than makes up for it in the quality of it's driving dynamics, comfort and cost compared compared to some imports. I know imports may be sexier looking cars with good gas mileage and crash worthiness, but if your not obsessed with having a "look at me" kind of car, appreciate the well designed, yet unseen characteristics of this car as well as it's lower insurance cost, I believe the Aveo not to be the Best of the Worst, but The Best For Less. Now only if GM could make something attractive...

Must've been a Consumer Reports or Consumer Union poll or publication. Those people could step in a cow pie and think they were at the beach. These are the same self-proclaimed "experts" who christened the 1988 Dodge Aries K as a "Consumer's Digest Best Buy" back then. Yeah, really technically qualified to render an opinion.

the best thing is to just try one out for yourself. if you like it then consider gettin one. if you dont then forget it. thats it. its all a matter of opinion, your desired use of the vehicle, and overall personal satisfaction. what one magazine or article may say is a crock of shit. wow, wasnt i likin the info phantom put out in the begining of the thread? hahaha, now itsw all baloney. live and learn.

I have a 07 hatchback and i love it. I've had problems, oil leak caused a horrible knock but i got a new engine under warranty, this can happen with any vehicle you just never know. Best or worst depends on what they want to focus on . I bought this car because it was cheap, gets decent mpg and i think it looks fresh. I would recomend this car to anyone that asked my opinion. I'm actually thinking about getting another one for my wife.

All the auto mags are import lovers. They aren't worth the paper they are printed on. I place no stock in thei opinions whatsoever. Just because it appears in a mag doesn't give it any value whatsoever.
CR is the worst. I'd rather be the only woman on a Greek freighter than be required to read that drivel.

I bought a 2004 Aveo a few months back, it has 50,000 miles on it, yes I replaced the timing belt cost about $250.00 no big deal.:smooch: I live in Denver Colorado and I and the family took it to Steamboat Springs (3 hours into the mountains) the other day 2 adults and 3 children in the back the trunk fully loaded with gear. I had no problems motoring up the step grades usually in third gear only spent about $40 dollars on gas.:2cents: I did a MPG check yesterday and got 38.5 MPG on my last tank of gas.:loser: So for what I bought the car for good gas mileage and price I think it has been a great buy.
