I noticed one day a pool of coolant on the ground under where the fan sits..... and I have been using alot of coolant. If i continue putting coolant in it until its fixed, it will not overheat? also I noticed one day the motor was hot but it did not register on the dash? why would this be?? How can check if its the fan or the rad or a hole on one of the lines?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

The temp guage not reading and the engine being hot is due to low coolant levels, the coolant needs to touch the sensor to record engine temperature. you need to find the leak if anything have it pressure tested and see where the antifreeze is coming from, if you think it's from the fan area you may have a bad hose or a radiator leak, but check the water pump area too for leakage of coolant from the timing belt area, and if it's the water pump leaking change the timing belt too while your at it.

This morning when geting back into the car, I feel rain drops, or what I thought was rain drops by my ankle, it was actually coolant, where could it be coming from, it is under the dash or where the sterring wheel is located, where all the wires are at.....
Has anyone heard of this problem before?
Please help...............

If your getting coolant inside the car then you have a heater core leak.

OK NOW that i KNOW its the heater core. where are they on a 1995 LHS, under the passengers dash,or someone where else??? What does it cost for an used core and what type of time is involved?
Is there anything I can do in the meantime to lessen the damage on the motor> Like one of those types of liquids/quick fixes bought at cdn tire you put in the engine? or do they help any? or make things worse?
I would liketo look at an online owners manual for this vehile, anyone know of an link?
Again, thanks so very much for your help....you have already saved me alot of time and money and I am thankful for this great site!

If it is leaking outside under fan area and inside the car.
You have two different leaks.
Stop leak crap is not a good fix. It may cause more problems.
The heater core may be a big repair and do not even think about a used heater core. Get a new heater core.
The labor on some runs up to 10 hrs plus parts.
Unless you are going to DIY it find a good repair shop and let them have at it.
If you keep driving it like it is you may burn up the engine.
A good repair shop will check it out and give you a estimate on repair.
Here is some tips on finding a good repair shop.
Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.

OK, everyone i spe4ak to tells me a different story. like this am I spoke to a fellow with the exact car as mine and he said it woujld take between 1/2 hr to 4 hours on a LHS, same as his 2 years in age difference, mine being newer, anyhow, he thinks the heater core is under the passengers side sah, but it was leaking under the drivers side dash??? could it be leaking both sides and would it not be on the floor in the rear as well, as I had this same thing happen to a Ford Tempo and the pool of coolant was in the passengers die rear floor.
WHY does or do heater cores usually go? is there a way to tell its on its way out?
Is this tru 10 hours labour or was that a guesstimate????
Is there anything i can do in the mneatime to prevent the engine from over heating? should I continue putting the fan/ac on? or leave it off? should I continue putting coolant in the car? as I have been watchng it daily and filling it... PLEASE HELP I NEED THIS CAR FOR INCOME AND CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER ONE OR EVEN THE REPAIRS RIGHT NOW.....TO BE HONEST, BUT I NEED TO KNOW WHAT I AM GETTING INTO BEFORE I START AT THIS!!
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ALL YOUR HELP!

Well good grief.
I only stated labor on some it can run can run up to 10 hrs. to replace a heater core.
So do not play my answers with everyone elses or a another person with a 2 year different car.
You did not give us your year make and model or any detailed info.
So how are we to know for sure what it is or how long it will take or what caused it.
Even the leak inside may not be a heater core.
But one thing for sure if you keep driving it low on coolant like low enough that your temp gauge does not work you can burn up the engine.
And from what you told us you may have a water pump or hose or radiator leak besides the leak inside.
You need to get it fixed or park it.
For repair info on it and the labor time.
Here is a link to it.

To help you
On the inside leak you could bypass the heater core.
With a jumper hose set up. But do not plug the engine heater hoses jump them.
But the outside leak you need to find out what is leaking for sure.
It may be major or minor.
Check hoses and raidator and water pump.
Find out where it is leaking and post back.
Maybe someone can help.

Thank you both for your replies..... I suppose I must go get someone to look at it in the morning.... as I am female and don't have a clue where to start even with your instructions. I will be sure to go to a few different mechanics to get an estimate..~
Thanks again!

Make sure you look for a good repair shop not just a few mechanics to find the cheapest price.
If money is low ask them explain it to them and about the heater core bypass for now and see if they can find the engine coolant leak.
It will run without a heater but will not run long with a engine leaking coolant.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
