Turn signals

I own a 97 and a 98 both have same problem. Turn signals won't work. New bulbs and fuses. They are hooked up through break lights and if I try to use turnsignal no flash and my break lights go out and I have to jiggle handle until they come back on. Help I don't need to get pulled over again. Any info will work.:banghead:

I have a 97 and i paid $200 to fix it. It's an electrical problem and apparently it's a very common thing in the lumina. My mechanic went behind the steering column and replace the wires back there.

Actually... I had the same problem and I needed to replace the Multifunction switch/Turn signal switch... I lost my brake lights 1st(only top 1 worked) and then my left signal went out... a bit of A P.I.T.A to do since you gotta pull the steering wheel to do it, but if yer mech. inclined ya prolly could fix it yerself... Be sure to disable the AIRBAG SYST. tho... dont want it going off while workin up there... Haynes puts out a good manual on this procedure...

If you're going to do this yourself, the Haynes manual omits the step of taking the bolt out of the center of the junction box where the multifunction switch harness hooks to the car. You have to separate the junction block to unplug the switch harness, as it removes from the center, not the outside. Also, when acquiring the switch, make sure you tell the parts guy whether your car has the steering wheel accessory controls or not, as the switches are different.
