change sensors when chenging the brake pads??

Hi there

yesterday i went to a garage to change the brake pads (porsche 944 S2 1989). there i've been told that when chenging the brake pads one is supposed to change the sensors too as they are worn and that's why the sensor flashes.

wondering if this is true or i've been kinda "conned" ;-)
