I've been kinda worried about fuel economy on my car lately. I bought it from my parents at 100K miles. Fixed the lower intake gasket, changed out the O2 sensors, spark plugs and that's about it that could affect MPG.
I drive 25 miles each way to work and in that trip I drive about 75% highway and 50% of it I can lock cruise at 60-65mph. The other 25% is usually stop and go getting into the city and then it breaks loose once I get through and then just a short stint through town to work.
Coming back I push hills for about 5 miles to get to my house.
In that drive, this time of the year I'm getting right around 20-22mpg. Depends on how hard I drive the car that week. If I punch it coming off the off-ramp a few times throughout the week of commuting I 've had the mpg come out in the high 19's.
I took a trip last week that was about 70miles each way. I was on the highway about 95% of the time with the cruise set right around 70mph. I got exactly 28.5mpg on that trip.
Considering the oxygenated fuel, cold weather warm up and 112K miles on the original CAT, I'd consider that I'm getting decent highway mileage. I wish my daily commute mileage was a bit better since it isn't exactly all city driving.

I have a show room stock 2000 GTP Pace Car Edition. Cruising the interstate at 75 - 80 this car has ALWAYS given me between 28.7 and 29.5 mpg. At 90 and above, it drops to around 27.5
On my daily commute, stop and go, an hour and 15 minutes to go 23 miles, I get 19.2 - 19.7, depending on traffic flow. And my boss's '00 5.0 'Stang STILL can't keep up with it!

Guys......there have been a lot of people ask this question and based on what I have seen from some very knowledgable people on this forum, the front and rear o2 sensors are a lot of the blame for milage loss. They say to replace them with AC delco (not bosch) and that should help milage pop back up

blah....And my boss's '00 5.0 'Stang STILL can't keep up with it!
where did your boss get a '00 5.0 STANG?!?!?! that has to be worth a fortune.... [/sarcasm]
i can see you know ZILCH about mustangs...and if it it IS a 2000 V8, it's a 4.6, w/ 260 hp, and runs mid-low 14's stock, which a mildly modded GTP shouldn't have much trouble keeping up with...

00 gtp getting 18.5- 19.5 mpg to and from work 95%-98% highway. somethings not right. this is about the same milage as my buick and about 3 seconds slower in the quarter, plus it requires premium. i just got it a few weeks ago, so i havent changed o2 sensors, injectors, or plugs yet. somethings wrong

About 13-19 MPG in town, but I live in the bay area. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but my GP gets THE best gas milage when it is driven under a little bit more than 1/2 throttle. Car hates to be in the stop and go traffic big time, so I either drive in parking lanes or wait for the car ahead of me to pull away far enough so I can let my GP roll in the Neutral.
On the freeway it gets anywhere from 23 to 28 MPG.

I drive a 96 Grand prix SE coupe with the 3100 motor...on average i get 29mpg....on a recent long trip to Tennessee from Florida cruising at about 85 to 90 mph i averaged 32 mpg.....I was very pleased with this....i know its not the most powerful motor offered in our cars...but its got some punch and with that fuel econom from a v6 in an 11 year old car...I ain complaining

99 gt, in the states i was getting about 35-40 mpg cruising at 70-80...all highway...after tune up with ngk platinums and msd wire...red, i think 8mm. now, out here on oahu, i get only 22 at best on highway...stupid traffic.. there are over 1.3 million people living in a 668sq mile area, and no one thought about mass transit would need more than 4 lanes...even the hov doesnt help!!!

I get 20mpg winter no matter what I do. I do a lot of rush hour commuting. I'd say home to Unversity commute is 50/50 HW/City milage. I'm not a lead foot either but do stop and go quite a bit.
I live in the part of town where a 96' Mercury Villager or [insert year here] Town and Country/Caravan/Voyager will turn in front of you, cut you off when there is nobody behind you, drive 50 feet and stop to turn left and hold up traffic for 2 minutes.
But that is mainly related to the fact that they didn't widen the road to the interstate far enough west. Plus Nebraska drivers are idiots. [end of traffic rant].
So, to conclude I only get 20mpg. 25-26 highway on my stock GT. Time for some new Delco 02 sensors I suppose.
