Has anyone had luck in trying to fix this. From the inside of the door I have taken off all of the panels. I can reach the arm that is supposed to be attached to the handle and it looks as if it has come off from the handle. I can take the clip off of the bottom rod.
And I can take one of the nuts off of the door handle assembly but I can't reach the one that is closest to the end of the door. I figured that I have to take this off to see how it is to be attached.
There must be an easier way?
Can anyone please help or have a diagram to show me on how it is supposed to be attached.

Ther should be a plug covering the access hole for the other nut for the handle.

Thanks, I'll check for that.

Common as dirt. The exterior door handles are made from crap metal and are very poorly engineered. Both left handles are the same, both right handles are the same.
I was quoted $200 from a GM dealer for a new handle. NAPA has 'em for $25. Yes, the NAPA one is made in Taiwan. The last "Genuine" GM part I bought for my Lumina was an outside mirror--$160 and Made in Communist China. After 2 years it's so faded it looks MUCH, MUCH worse than the 13-year-old Made In Canada originals. No wonder GM is going bankrupt.
If you have a 3.4, you have to paint the door handles to match.

Go to a junk yard and pull one for five bucks max. Since the units on the drives door all wear out, pull the one from the back drivers door - much less use and they are idenitical.

I tried getting a junkyard handle...THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY 'cause they've all been sold already. J-U-N-K.

hehe, i had this exact problem...one thing that will help the longevity of the door handle is to make sure the door handle is adjusted snugly and there is no slack whatsoever...i picked up an aftermarket handle for $27...

Not to mention that the door will sag over time, then drag on the striker post (you can see the wear on the top of the post) and a very simple boost with a floor jack and a block of wood will make the door open and close SO much easier than when it drags on the striker post. It's REALLY EASY, but it's also REALLY EASY to over-do it. If you think you may have lifted the door at all--you probably did, and don't go any further until you test it by closing and re-opening.
My '93 needed this on the driver's door, the '92 seems OK for now.

so, youre saying that if you put a block of wood on a jack, and then proceed to put the jack under the door(while open obviously) and put a little pressure on it, you can take out the sagging? really? may have to try that... the Z34's saggin a bit on both sides....
