ok ya my gas gauge it doesnt work, itll read full sometimes, sometimes empty, even if i fill it up completly, basically its totally wrong

anyways my dad said it would cost 300 to get it fixed (200 is for the part itself) that seems way to expensive (200 for the lil gas gauge)

so ya is that price correct?

I'd be wondering if the gauge is bad, the sending unit is bad, or the wiring in between.

Of the three, the LAST one that I'd suspect is the gauge itself. 'Course, anything can happen.

pick up yourself a hays repair manual for your year lumina. They usually give you a troubleshoot process that will guide you through "ground this wire, the guage should read empty, if so, the sending unit is bad" sort of scenario. If all else fails, just bring it in and have an estimate done to see what it would cost. Your dad is right, although I dont think sending units are 200.00, they are quite expensive. The service is what kills you when it deals with fuel pumps and sort.

Just for laughs, pull the multi-wire connector that goes to the tank apart, see if you have any corrosion in the terminals.
