I hate to sound stupid, but, I have a cooling problem with my 97 intrepid 3.5L I have replaced the thermostat and the radiator. The car still overheats. I am almost sure that the water pump is the problem. However, where is the water pump? Is it belt or gear driven?

It is belt driven and can be found behind the front engine cover. It is driven by the timing belt.

Don't foget to bleed the water from the goose neck. I had the same problem and it was that I didn't bleed the water.

It is belt driven off the back of your timing belt. The water pump is located behid your timing plate cover. To get this off you will have to remove your harmonic balancer and maybe even your radiatior. 3 little bolts hold it in there. I've been there, done that.

To get the pulley off,use a special 3 jaw puller and you can probally borrow or rent one from the dealer. There are no holes for a harmonic balancer puller.Put in a new timing belt at the same time, you do not need to do it a second time.
