on my 88 auto 2wd pioneer i cleaned the cap and rotor and it hasnt started since. prior to that the previous months it has taken a little longer to start but not that bad.

i havent put juice to the starter directly to see it it is dead as i am unsure exactly how to go at it other than disconnecting it running cables to the starter
i guess with the key in on position.

the battery is new rechecked and charged up to spec next day after the strand/tow and a new cap rotor installed, the dash lights up but it just wont turn over nothing at all no clicking. i hear what sounds like the fuel pump working also.

i haveread here that the neutal safety switch can be the problem needing only removal cleaning then regreasing.....any suggestions? need my jeep for work bad and have to use a german 4 cyl in its place for now and it just aint the same.

put it in park turn the key on and take a rubber handel screwdriver and the touch the positive and the ground at the same timeon the starter. i have to do this sometimes with my jeep. i dont think mine goes in to park half the time.try to put your gear shifter in park a couple of times and see if that works.]good luck!

if by moving the shifter around to start it seems like threads i read on the neytral safety switch which iseasily accessed removed openedcleaned and greased ...the starter seems to bean easy job as well but ......if the starter turns over when wired direct by passing the ignition then the switch/ wiring is faulty

thanks i will look for the switch troubleshoot before appraching the starter though.
