what are the performance mods for a 3000GT SL? ive found intakes but they seem to be just chrome flashy parts, i also found an exhaust but other then that theres nothing. ive got more parts available for my Taurus SHO. my friend is sick of losing to it so wants some mods. anyone know what there is to do for the n/a cars?

intake, exhaust, cams, chips, MAF sensors, intake manifolds, flywheels? anything?

there is alot of things you can do to an NA to make it faster : K&N intake , Aluminum flywheel , rps stage 3 clutch , Underdrive pulley , APEXI S-afc , Exhaust , Cam regrinds , Cam gears. It depends how much money you want to spend.

if you were beginning to mod an SL model what would you start with? im thinking DN Intake Pipe Kit and K&N FIPK kit for intake, lightweight flywheel for some easier revving, and then a custom exhaust system. is there anything i shoudl/shouldnt do?

the DN intake pipe is just for look and sound , it doesn't do anything for performance. the first things you should do are the K&N intake , then underdrive pulley. If you want to get the aluminum flywheel then you might as well get the RPS stage 3 clutch cause its right there. After that get an exhaust. Next thing you could do is get cam gears and thats basically the end for adding HP unless you want to regrind your cams or bore out the the engine.

you could also add a zex nitrous system and turbo upgrades from hks i can't find Ne headers or cat. converters for a 3000GT though and i heard that if you have a SL and add a tubro chances are you will blow Ur engine and it is just better to spend the extra few dollars and get a VR4 and do the turbo upgrades

My friend has an SL, his first upgrade was an exhaust. It sounds awsome. His next upgrade is the trubo setup off my VR4. As long as you dont boost over 6psi your pretty much safe. I cant wait till we finish our cars.

That is the route I would go if I had an N/A. With the 10:1 compresion the turbos spool right around idle speeds.

Its a POS.

As for the original question, read the FAQ, there is a part in there called the NA modding bible that has plenty of suggestions for how to mod an SL.

lol igovert, the first mod you should do is buy a bank account and save up for a VR4, then for the next mod look in the FAQ for how to upgrade your VR4....at least that's what im doing.

I have a flowmaster set up with 3'' piping I believe and a K&N FIPK on my 91 SL with 123k. The thing is pretty quick. The reason I bought the flowmasters is because my buddy got me a deal on them and they make the car sound pretty sick, has a sort of V8 muscle car rumble at idle and a nice purr when it's running. When you step on the gas the thing sounds MEAN. I wish I could upload a sound bite for you to hear. As for the FIPK I think it was worth the money the car has a small but noticable perfromance gain from the mods. The exhaust mounted cost about 350. My car is just fo getting me to and fro though soI don't have any too mods on it, I can't wait to get a VR4, just need to save a bit more.
