spark plugs and wires

i just got this car and i can only see the front 3 plugs...can anyone tell me how to get to the other 3 on the back..???

Welcome to our forums.

First you have to put your car in nuetral and block the back wheels so it wont roll around on you, second you have to take off the front Torque struts (engine mounts if you wanna call them that) and then rock the engine forward. after you get it far enough forward you should be able to slip the bolts into the holes on the engine and strut mount. If i remember right.

After that you have easy access to the plugs. Since the engine is FWS (front wheel drive) the engine is truly sideways, instead of it facing front to front back to back etc. its front to left, rear to right. If you need more help look at some of the other posts on here, or do a search for plug wires. im sure you will find one of the normal threads about it.

I take the torque struts out, leave it in park, and start rocking the car back and forth, making the engine pitch back and forth. When it rolls forward as much as it's gonna, I stomp the e-brake to lock it in this position. Then I block two wheels so it can't creep. If it does, the motor will drop back down. If you're real worried about it, wedge a block of wood between the motor and the firewall.

I don't bother. My reflexes are good :grinyes:

Wow, had to quote this just so I could read it... :rofl:

Take both front struts off. Use a pry bar, and stick it in the front left strut bracket There is a slot specifically for this. Apply pressure to the bracket with the pry bar, and use a heavy duty tie strap to hold the engine in a shifted position. You should have more than ample clearance to get at your plugs.

I've seen more methods for this that any other procedure I can think of... :grinyes:

This is a good one. I backed my truck up to the front of my 91 Loom, took off the torque struts, put one of the T.S. bolts back in (engine side) and looped a ratchet strap from the T.S to the frame of my truck. Then, just ratchet it foward, make sure the loom's tranny is neutral and you have blocked the front wheels. I got plenty of room to change the plugs on the back side of the motor.

You can also take out the struts and butt up behind it with another car and push it forward while in park, and the motor will roll forward :iceslolan

Thanks to Jeffco and some of the other guys, I gleaned enuff info from this site to replace my ICM, do a complete plug and wire job and get my loom back on the road. I have orders to Bath, ME shipyard (US Navy), I'm thinkin of drivin my loom cross country. It gets 22 mpg and purrs like a kitten. It's kind of a hoopty (a few dents) but I love that old Loom!!
