When you talk about changing the ignition, you mean the electrical part on it, right??? I ordered one today because i started the vehicle, then all my gauges went dead. but it still drove, The only problem is that then it went into the granny mode, and then the Check engine light came on. The codes showed that it wasn't shifting properly basically. Which i figured was because of the granny mode. The key didn't get stuck though, because i had that button solenoid taped in, So how big of job is it to change the switch. I don't have a haynes or chilton manual, so can i do it myself???? The switch was like 80 bucks, so I hope it is the right switch. It should be like and electircal box , right?? or do I need to take the steering wheel of or something like that?? This is on a 98 Jimmy by the way. Where your key goes in isn't the ignition that needs changing, right???

Well it wsan't too bad, but I wouldn't want to do it again. It took about 4 hours, but alot had to do with wiring my autostart into the new harness. Just time consuming with not alot of room to work. Before anyone removes the old one I would have the new switch just to look at before doing the job. Removing the old switch block would have been tough without looking at the new one. There are two spring loaded tabs that need to be pushed in at the same time to remove it. I had to use too nales to get in there and push them out. The other problem I had was once the switch was installed the gears were out of line with the cylinder lock, so after turning the gears on the switch to learn how it worked, i put the switch all the way back as in Accesoory mode, then had the key in the cylinder turned all the way back as well. Right away they weren't lined up, so the key switch would only go so far, but not far enough to start the vehicle. Oh well Seems to work fine now. The only problem is that that solenoid switch from the center counsel to the key release still doesn't work??? I put the duct tape back in there so it works great now, but does anyone have any feedback on that solenoid key release deal???

Gotten Pretty Good Directions Off This Site, Hope To Replace Mine Tomorrow. Any Advice? Never Replaced Anything Like This Before On My Ride, Just Don't Have $175 To Pay Someone To Replace This.

yes it is in the steering column right by your key cylinder. You should have a harness that runs from the top through the column almost to the firewall. that is the ignition switch/box that I was changing anyways. The only thing other than those directions was that to get the top cover off there is one bolt going up on the right side of the colum that was the only e3-E4 socket. I don't remember what size it was though. Other wise you should be alright. There are NO torx screws holding it in either, that is where those 2 spring loaded buttons had to be pressed to slide it out. on the topside, the bottom was just a screw in the middle of the black box. Other wise just follow those directions like on the blazer site.
