Pinion Bearing Issues with 95 968 w/LSD?

We are looking to possibly purchase a '95 968 with roughly 70,000 miles on it, actually the last 968 ever shipped to the United States (featured in Excellence Magazine last year). Our question is, being that the owner is unaware of the pinion bearing status (not replaced that he is aware of), is this something that we should be concerned about being that the car already has 70,000 miles on it? We have also heard a rumor that those 968's with Limited Slips do not have the pinion bearing problems, I would also like to clear that up.

Thanks

Just had one done for a friend. They replaced both bearings. The car did have LSD. It was $1600.00 for the whole job.

Thank you for the insight. $1,600 seems very cheap, I have heard this is upwards of a $3,000 problem to fully dismantle, replace the bearing, and then shim back into factory specifications.

The name of the shop is Exotech and they are located in Southern NH. I know they do a lot of mail in stuff(you take it out and send it to them) like heads and valve jobs as well as transmission rebuilds. If your interested I can give you all the information.

That might be good information to have "just in case." Not sure if we are going to purchase or not, but if we do, it would be good to know of a shop that can fix it for that amount. Thanks for your help.
