Dex-Cool Sludge

On my '96 1500 Burb. I pulled the cap off the radiator & I have globbs of goo in there. I called around about getting the system flushed & was told that they would just flush it with water as the heater core will leak if they use chemicals in it. So, I did that myself & still have the goo. Anyone else have this happen?

Flush it out wilth prestone radiator flush, it's in a yellow bottle, and then get either the green stuff or the yellow stuff. Don't go back to dexcool. I mean deathcool.

I must disagree with the assumption that the dexcool is the culprit of your problem, contamination of the cooling system seems to be what causes the sludge. they say that happens when u dont have enough water mixxed in with the radiator fluid.... i used dexcool and a head gasket blew... dunno if thats what it was from but id stick with the green stuff

I had to do mine twice. The second time I used the Prestone
Flush which will have you drain & refill a couple times. After
that the mess was very close to completely gone. Even though
I put green back in it, I wouldn't expect any prob. with either
coolant if you keep it full and closed.

I did find that the outlet (heater hose) on the intake was cracked & leaking so maybe that caused the sludge? I have since replaced that fitting & will flush it again & see what happens. Thanks.
