How to remove headlight

Someone smashed my passenger side headlight. I called NAPA & it would cost $150 Canadian for the part. I can't afford to pay for labour. Is it difficult to remove & replace by myself? Could someone explain how to do it?

The car is a 91 Toyota Tercel LE

Thanks, Teresa

You are going to have to remove some of the grill to get to it. If I remeber correctly you will have to remove the center piece of the grill first and then the piece around the headlight. All it takes is a phillips screwdriver. There are about 10 screws total you will have to remove. Just make sure you have ALL of them removed from around the headlight piece before you go pulling on it or it will break. There are 4 screws holding the metal trim that holds the light in. You will see these after removing the plastic.

If you have any junkyards in your area, you might be able to get a good headlight from them for a fraction of the cost. I've been finding out just how much money the junkyards can save me lately as compared to the dealerships. I just got a pair of front seats for my 95 Tercel in perfect condition for $75. They were slightly dirty, but the Bissel Little Green Machine made them look like new again. Anyway, a headlight shouldn't cost much, and if there are a few people working at the junkyard that day, you might even be able to talk one of them into "helping" you change it on the spot. There's nothing better than cheap parts and free labor.

Thank-you for your replies. A friend helped replace it & we would never have known to remove the grill first. Thanks again, Teresa
