Im getting my new heater controls in the next couple of days and can't see an easy way to remove the old heater controls. My bro's 4g hatch they can drop down but the crx has a bar in between them and the radio that prevents them from droping down so they can pull out.

thanks for the reply but thats for the hatch and maybe the 4d but the crx has this bar in there so I can't slide straight out.

I KNOW..
The proper way.. First take centre consol apart. now your have your stereo trim.. You have to remove those four screws and take the radio section out(that whole black piece that has ashtray etc) once that is out the way, try to tuck the wires for stereo out the way. Next, undo the 3 screws holding in climate control. Slide it back, into the dash, then drop it down where radio would be.. (there is enough room) now pullout that way, but BE CAREFUL!!! you have to put your hand back there and kinda work blind removing the 3 electrical plugs. Last step, get a star screw driver and again, kinda working blind, take the 2 screws holding the heat control turn nob. You want to keep this as those black wires on it are damn hard to replace... After removing that, it will just come straight out.

When putting one back in, Follow steps backwards but i warn you. BE EVER SO CAREFUL as CRX climate controls crack so damn easy!!!!

Good luck..

Does that bar inbetween the heater control and the stereo have a reason to be there? I got my old controls out but they where already in two peices. My new controls are next to impossible to get in. Im thinking of cutting that bar out of there. Didn't know they would be this hard to replace.

it serves as support.. BUT i wouldn't try to put it in straight.. I mean, you can and all.. but, if you go backwards to the steps i told you, it will be find for ya...

i tried in reverse but there is no room with the control knob housing attached. Im going to go fiddle with it some more. Worse comes to worse ill have the dealer do it and if they break somthing they can fix it :)

sounds good.. Where by chance did you get yours cause i need one as well, every time i buy a new rex, i always have one with a bad climate control.. most of the time i can repair them, but this one was toast...

i got mine on ebay, I asked the guy to end the auction early and I just picked them up from him. He lived the next city over.

Thanks for the help you where right. I just had to figure out the magical jigsaw position for them to move in place. I some how knocked out the lights in the thing but I don't care its in it works and it looks good.

awesome.. yeah.. the first one i took out, i kinda broke it messin around trying to figue it out.. so when i put my new on in, i got it all figured out.. for one of the most fragile climate controls i have ever seen, they made it very complicated to put in.
glad you got it in!
