What do you mean? Your car won't go into 2nd gear when you're at high rpm's?

yeah...I mean..if I take my sweet time and shit like a sec or two or short shift 5 to 6 it'll go in but with a "crack sound" like a forced geared!!when I'm driving normal it won't do this when I shift around 3 on every gear...y'all know normal driving..but when I take off from first I'll burn rubber and all then I'll try to hit 2nd quick to burn rubber in 2nd once again and my car won't go into 2nd and just stay in first and make that long azz sound like when u rev it..so then I will let the gas go and put in the clutch nice and slow...and well I killed IT!! LoL....I have very good tires!! btw...also I think I messed up my car today...I was trying to force 2nd once again today....while I was driving to work....and well now when I turn on my car or when I stop in a light and then have to start shifting from 1st to 2nd etc. my car will make this very strange funny noise and then as I speed up it'll slowy go away...the noise sound like a hezzzing sound like when a belt get's wet and u turn on ur car and those this hezzing sound for like a sec or two and go away and never do it again well my's doesn't...thoes it when I turn on my car then will slowly go away then after I start shifting from 1st slowly goes away too..what could this be?? (did this all way back from work like 5 miles away...evertime I stoped and started shifting from 1st after 2nd to 3rd it's about GOne the noise in 1st it does it REALY LOUD!!) I think messed up the belts..but I will check tomorrow morning...any help is welcome on both subjects thankxx guys...

I Dont Know About The Whole Shifting At 8500 Thing, And If Your Spraying I Highly Doubt That High, Everyone Who Uses Nitrous Knows That You Shift Lower When Spraying. 8500 Would Have To Be After Some Mods Wer Done To It And If You Did Them Then You Know As Well As Everyone Else That There Isnt A Such Thing As Bullit Proof. Anything And Everything Will Bust. Its A Matter Of Time But If You Shift At 85oo Its Not A Long Wait For You To Find That Out.

But To Help You Out On Where To Shift I Cant Really Tell You. When I Race I Look At My Giant Tach Before I Go Then I Go By Sound But If I Had To Guess I Would Say Around 10,500 On My Car With Would Be Around 600-6500 On Yours.

I think the automatic 5th gen prelude transmissions were crappy.

About the whole thing on shifting at 8500...i dunno about that

I cant help with with the noise problem but I can help you with the redline issue. Dont do it. Our 3rd gen ludes arent designed to rev that high. Its hard on the motor. You will run into serious engine problems. I would say 6 grand is plenty good on a stock motor.

I agree..with "sofast "this is my first stick shift 3rd Gen Lude "88 Si" and I couldn't agree with u more..that these 3rdGen aren't really designed to Rev that high as the motor doesn't feel or sound as a 4thGen S,Si, not along a VTEC motor when reving it to there redlines...btw my motor as 190K which I think isn't too high for an 88 so I was already guessing these engines "b20's" aren't like the 4thGen's I have had before '92 Si and 94 VTEC...it's clear to me now..tho I still love my CAR..I'm go check out my car about that noise..still any help is wlecome..on this weird noise..

p.s. I'll try not to rev my Lude beyond 6,200RPM just a bit before redline...when some punk civic rev's at me LoL

As far as not being able to shift at high RPM's and the sound, get your syncros checked.

I agree. I have the same problem with my CRX - can't hit 2nd or 3rd at high RPM's. At low RPM's if I gently nudge the shifter into gear it's fine, but I can't "slam" into 2nd or 3rd because of the synchros, sometimes it makes the same "crack noise". It's actually helped to improve my clutch/shifting technique - I'm a lot smoother and faster now when I drive my other car.

In the Honda service bulliten it states that on these cars you should never skip a gear while shifting. If you do, guess what happens. It starts to grind a little while going into gear. I didn't know this until mine started grinding going in third, but only at high rpms with hard shifts. If I take my time shifting it goes in fine.
And for your shifting rpms. I couldn't tell you. I have a 94 si, mildly modified and I drive the rpms to the limit. And I can easily outrun the stock v-tec ludes at this point. But that only takes a few thousand dollars to do. good luck to ya.

I've noticed something on my VAFC. I have it display rpms and found out that the tach is ahead of the actual rpm of the engine. If I were to bring my needle to redline at 7400 the VAFC would register me being almost at 7k.

I don't whether to trust my VAFC or my stock tach.

if you really want to have fun and shift high, do what i'm in the process of doing. Put in: forged pistons, rods, retainers, bearings, camsafts(not really necessary, but fun) sleeves, and most importantly new valves. After getting your new crap put in an tunned, you should be able to safely take your rpm's up to damn near 10,000. Oh and a nice turbo always helps too.

Oh yea.. and the thousands of dollars and hours of machine work it takes to do this..

Just curious, how far are you on this project?

Shift at redline, downshift around 4 grand. Change your oil religiously.

what ^ said. unless your car has been dynotuned, if so then you should know exactly where to upshift.

just wait till the dam rev limiter kicks in and shift. lol im kiddin. u have a tranny problem, either the slider or the synchros but when the rpms come down the gear stops moving (which is the sychros job) and it will go in without a noise... i bet someone has clutchless shifted or grinded a gear or two a few times....lol.
