Drainign battery!

Hi,

Maybe someone can help me! My cooling fans stay on after shutting the car off(which I know it is usual) but it seems to drain my battery. Someone has told me that it could be my radiator switch or a relay switch. Is there a way to determine which switch is bad using a voltmeter or a way to find out where the current is drawn from etc.. or do I have to replace each switch in order to determine which one is bad? I need some opinions, please!!! Please help A.S.A.P!!!!

Thanks! I called a mechanic and they told me that it should be the "thermal switch" on the radiator that is bad and causing the fan to constantly run and drain the battery after turning off the car. I had jsut put in a new battery and that should not be the cause of it. I wish there would be a better way to determine the cause without changing each switch.

Do you have a haynes manual? If not, get one. I'm not sure of the wiring diagrams for the 944, but it stands to reason that the cooling fans will not come on unless the thermo-fan switch in the coolant flow is keeping the circuit closed.

The thermo switch is on the left side of the radiator, you can reach it from the top, when you cut the engine off and the fan runs for more than two or three minutes you should unplug the thermo switch, if the fan stops your thermo switch may be failing. If the fan still runs with the switch unpluged you have a sticking relay. The relay is in the fuse box, it's the largest relay in the box (mine is silver). unplug the relay and the fan should go off. If you feel the relay click as you unplug it then you may have a grounded wire between the switch and the relay, if you don't feel it click then it's stuck and should be replaced.
